    PROXIMATE COMPOSITION ANALYSIS OF SELECTED CATFISH EGG FROM WILD AND CULTURE

    Abstract
    A study was conducted to analysis the proximate composition of catfish eggs, collected from cultured and wild sources of the same year class during the pre spawning and spawning season from June 2018 to September 2018. The study incorporated five commonly available catfish species, in Bangladesh including Shing (Heteropneustes fossilis), Magur (Clarius batrachus), Pabda (Ompak pabda), Gulsha Tengra (Mystus bleekeri) and Tengra (Mystus v vittatus). The aim of the study was to analyze the proximate composition of catfish egg as well as to know the compositional differences between the eggs of two different sources. A total of thirty, fifteen fish sample from each sources were taken, while the cultured sample were taken after the age determination of the wild samples. The egg samples were categorized into two groups; wild and cultured and proximate compositions were analyzed separately by following AOAC method for comparison between the two groups. The average moisture, fat, ash and calcium content was 66.22%, 0.4326%, 2.44%, 0.290828% correspondingly in wild sample, found to be higher, comparing to the cultured, where average protein, phosphorus and energy content was 26.932%, 0.25248% and 454.67 kj/gm in cultured sample higher than that of wild. Significant differences were found between the values of wild and cultured sample. The proximate composition of fish egg also varies in two same species taken from two different sources. This study also depicts that wild fish sample accumulate more moisture, fat, ash and calcium than cultured sample, while the protein, phosphorus and energy content is higher in cultured sample. This study can be helpful for further research efforts on the compositional analysis of fish egg or gonad investigation of catfish to know the impact of proximate composition on broodstock for production. This study can also work as an access for future research work on the potential effects of proximate composition on offspring.
