Bangladesh is one of the world‟s leading inland fisheries producers with enough water resource all over the country in the form of small ponds, ditches, lakes, canals, small and large rivers, and estuaries covering about 4.34 million hectares. In addition to this, the country has also a coastal area of 2.30 million hectares and a coastline of 714 km along the Bay of Bengal, which supports the livelihood of a large artisanal and coastal fisheries. Moreover, the country is one of the aquatic animals‟ resourceful countries with its wide range of marine aquatic biodiversity. There are about 1093 marine aquatic organisms where 44.35% are finfish, 32.23% shellfish, 15.10% seaweeds and only 8.32% are other organisms including shrimps (Ghose, 2014).en_US
This experiment was carried out to observe length-weight relationship, condition factors (CFf) and growth performance of Labeo bata from May 2018 to April 2019 at Atria river of Dinajpur district, Bangladesh. A total number of 447 of Labeo bata fish species were collected from the river monthly for study purpose. Total body weight (gm) and total length (cm) of fish were measured and scaled, fishes were in range of 11.4cm to 31.2 cm, 10.7cm to 30.7cm, 10.7cm to 31.2 cm in total length, 15 to 355.5g, 14.2 to 315.5g, 14.2-355.5g in total body weight for female, male and combined populations respectively. The results showed that the growth patterns of Labeo bata were described by lnBW=3.038 (lnTL) -4.761, lnBW=2.912 (lnTL) -4.351, lnBW=2.989 (lnTL)-4.600 for female, male and combined populations respectively. The values of „b‟ were found 3.038 (isometric growth pattern) for female, 2.912 (negative allometric growth pattern) for male, 2.989 (isometric growth pattern) for combined populations. More over the range of coefficient determination (r2 ) was found 0.968, 0.969, and 0.968 for female, male and combined populations respectively. The average value of condition factors were 0.970, 0.984, 0.975 for female, male and combined sex respectively. Moreover, growth parameters, asymptotic length L∞ were found 36.23 cm, 34.13 cm, and 36.23 cm for female, male and combined sex respectively. The value of growth coefficient (K) was found 0.73y -1 , 0.62y -1 , 0.72y -1 , for female, male and combined sex respectively. The growth performance index (Ø) was highest (2.98) for female followed by (2.97) for combined populations and then (2.85) for male.en_US
