Abstract
An experiment was conducted at the research farm and laboratory of Crop
Physiology and Ecology Department, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and
Technology University, Dinajpur, during April 2012 to August 2012 to evaluate the
effect of different levels of NPK fertilizers on the growth and yield of okra. The
experiment was laid out in two factors randomized complete block design with
three replications. Three okra varieties, such as BARI Dherosh 1, Choice and Arka
Anamica and four fertilizer treatments, such as Fy) (NPK 0 0 0 kgha’), F,
(NPK 60 20 40 kgha’'), F, (NPK 90 30 60 kgha™') and F;(NPK 120 40 80
kgha’') were tested. Arka Anamica and fertilizer treatment, F;(NPK 120 40 80
kgha’') had higher leaf number, stem height (cm), branch number, leaf area plant
'(cm’), fruit number plant”, fruit length plant”'(cm), fruit weight plant” (g), fruit
weight (tha™'), seed number fruit’, seed weight fruit’ (g), seed yield plant''(g),
1000-seed weight(g), seed yield (g plot’) and seed yield (tha’'). F, (NPK 90 30 60
kgha’') had statistically similar result with F;(NPK 120 40 80 kgha"'). On the
other hand, variety BARI Dherosh 1 had minimum values in these characteristics.
Variety Arka Anamica took more time for first flowering (30.92 days). The
interaction of variety and fertilizer doses significantly affects days to first
flowering (33.00). The interaction of variety and fertilizer doses significantly
affects the seed yield (tha™') of okra. Lowest (1.633 tha’) seed yield was observed
at V3Fy combination. V; F; combination had highest (3.903 tha’) seed yield (tha’')
which was statistically similar to V,; F, combination (3.883 tha’).
