I would like to express my ever gratefulness and endless praises to the ‘Almighty God’ Who has enabled me to carry out this piece of research work and present the thesis for the degree of Master of Science (M.S.) in Soil Science. With profound pleasure and privilege, I would like to express my deepest sense of gratitude and indebtedness to my honorable teacher and supervisor Professor Dr. A.K.M. Mosharof Hossain, Department of Soil Science, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur for his constant and scholastic guidance, untiring assistance, valuable suggestion, continuous inspiration and immense help throughout the tenure of this research work and preparation of this thesis. Deep appreciation and profound regards to my co-supervisor Md. Mizanur Rahman, Professor Department of Soil Science, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur for his valuable guidance, untiring supervision, cordial support, high encouragement and co-operation in carrying out research and preparing the thesis. I also express my respect and thankfulness to all teachers of the Department of Soil Science, HSTU, Dinajpur for their good advices and co-operation during the period of this study. Finally, I express my gratefulness and deepest appreciation to my beloved parents and friends for their blessings, immeasurable sacrifice, endless prayer and continuous inspirations throughout my academic life to reach me this level of higher education.en_US
An experiment was conducted in the Soil Science Research Field of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur during the period of November 2016 to February 2017 in order to investigate the effects of different levels of zinc (Zn) and poultry manure (PM) on the yield and yield attributes of mustard (BARI sarisha 15). Twelve fertilizers treatments were applied where different levels of Zn and PM were applied on mustard. The common dose of N, P, K, S and Zn was applied in all the treatments which were T1 = PM0Zn0, T2 = PM0Zn3, T3 = PM0Zn6, T4 = PM0Zn9, T5 = PM5Zn0, T6 = PM5Zn3, T7 = PM5Zn6, T8 = PM5Zn9, T9 = PM10Zn0, T10 = PM10Zn3, T11= PM10Zn6, T12 = PM10Zn9. The experimental results revealed that plant height, branches plant-1, pod number, pod length, 1000-seeds weight, seed yield and stover yield were significantly influenced with the application of Zn and PM. The highest plant height (95.87 cm), maximum number of branches (10.20) was observed in T7 treatment and the lowest plant height (90.18cm) and minimum number of branches (7.40) was found in the control treatment (T1). In the case of number of pod the highest (81.33) was found in the treatment T7 but the lowest (63.87) was observed in the treatment T1. Seed yield and stover yield of mustard were significantly influenced with the application of Zn along with PM also. It was found that the application of 6 kg Zn ha-1 with 5 t PM ha-1 produced the highest seed (1260.0 kg ha-1) and stover yield (631.3 kg ha-1). Whereas, the control treatment produced the lowest seed (693.2 kg ha-1) and stover yield (379.6 kg ha 1 ). The findings of the study showed that the performance of the treatment T7 was the best among the different treatments in respects of plant height, branches plant-1 , number of pod plant-1, seed yield and stover yield of mustard. Therefore, 6 kg Zn ha-1 with 5 t PM ha-1 may be recommended for mustard cultivation after trailing the experiment in the different Agro-Ecological Zone (AEZ).en_US
