INVESTIGATION OF MORPHO-CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND YIELD POTENTIAL OF FIVE HYV BORO RICE CULTIVARS
Collections
Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at the farm laboratory of Agricultural
Chemistry Department, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology
University, Dinajpur, during the period from February to May, 2014 to study
morphochemical, yield and yield contributing characters of five HYV boro rice
varieties viz. BR11, BR16, BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29 and BRRI dhan50.The
experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three
replications. Results revealed that morphological, physiological, yield and yield
attributes were significantly different among the cultivars studied. HYV cultivar
had shorter in plant height, having more tillering capacity, higher leaf number,
enough chlorophyll content and proper chemical composition which in turn
showed superior growth character and yield. The HYV BRRI dhan29 produced
in higher number of grains panicle-1
and bolder grains which resulted higher
grain yield. Further, BRRI dhan29 showed superiority in yield contributing
characters, erect leaves and total dry mass and it also produced higher grain
yield (7.11 t ha-1
).Therefore, it is observed that BRRI dhan29 showed better
yield potential than those of other HYV cultivars studied
