Abstract
The present study was investigated to study the morpho-physiological traits and
yield performance of soybean. The experiment was conducted at the in research field
of the Department of Crop Physiology and Ecology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh
Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, during the period of November 2011
to May 2012. Four soybean varieties viz. Bangladesh soybean-4, Sohag, BARI
soybean-5 and BARI soybean-6 were used as study materials. One mixed biofertilizer and control treatments were used to find out the effect of biofertilizer on
morpho-physiological features and yield performances of soybean varieties. The
experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three
replications. Experiment showed that most of the morpho-physiological characters,
such as plant height, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, leaf dry weight, total dry
matter, number of nodule plant, leaf area were increased significantly due to
application of biofertilizer. The above parameters were the maximum when the
soybean varieties were treated with bio-fertilizer. Yield and yield components such
as number of pods plant’, pod length (cm), pod dry weight (g plant”), number of
seeds pod’, 100 seed weight, seed yield (g plant) and seed yield (kg ha‘) were
increased significantly by the application of biofertilizer over the control. The
maximum plant height was found in Bangladesh soybean-4 with bio-fertilizer
inoculation. BARI soybean-6 performed better than the varieties Bangladesh
soybean-4, Sohag and BARI soybean-5 in respect of root dry weight, leaf dry
weight, total dry matter, leaf area, pods plant’, pod length (cm), pod dry weight (g
plant”), number of seeds pod", 100 seed weight, seed yield (g plant”), seed yield (kg
ha’). The maximum seed yield was found in BARI soybean-6 with biofertilizer
inoculation and minimum seed yield was found in Bangladesh soybean-4.
