All praises for Almighty the most merciful and the supreme ruler of the universe Who has blessed the author with life, time and energy and enabled him to complete the present research work and to prepare this manuscript for the degree of Master of Science (MS) in Soil Science. With profound pleasure and privilege, I would like to express my deepest sense of gratitude and indebtedness to my honorable teacher and supervisor Professor Dr. A.K.M. Mosharof Hossain, Department of Soil Science, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur for his constant and scholastic guidance, untiring assistance, valuable suggestion, continuous inspiration and immense help throughout the tenure of this research work and preparation of this thesis. Deep appreciation and profound regards to my co-supervisor Dr. Md. Mansur Rahman, Professor, Department of Soil Science, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur for his valuable guidance, untiring supervision, cordial support, high encouragement and co-operation in carrying out research and preparing the thesis. I also express my respect and thankfulness to all teachers of the Department of Soil Science, HSTU, Dinajpur for their good advices and co-operation during the period of this study. Cordial appreciations and thanks are extended to all the staffs of the Department of Soil Science, HSTU, and Dinajpur for their helps and co-operation. Finally, I express my gratefulness and deepest appreciation to my beloved parents and friends for their blessings, immeasurable sacrifice, endless prayer and continuous inspirations throughout my academic life to reach me this level of higher education.en_US
An experiment was conducted in the Soil Science research field of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during the period of September 2016 to February 2017 in order to investigate the effects of different levels of boron (B) and poultry manure (PM) on the yield and yield contributing charecteristics of wheat. Twelve fertilizer treatments were used and which were T1=PM0B0, T2=PM0B4, T3=PM0B8, T4=PM0B12, T5=PM5B0, T6=PM5B4, T7=PM5B8, T8 =PM5B12, T9 =PM10B0, T10 =PM10B4, T11 = PM10B8 and T12 =PM10B12. Recommended doses of N, P, K, S and Zn were applied in all the treatments. The experimental results revealed that plant height, spike length, number of tillers hill-1 , number of spikelets spike-1 , 1000-grain weight, straw weight, grain weight, nitrogen and boron content in the soil were significantly influenced by B and PM. The highest plant height (89.50 cm) was observed in T7 treatment and the lowest (63.50 cm) was found in the control. The maximum number of tillers (4.67) was produced in the treatment T7 and minimum number (2.00) was found in the control. The highest number of grain (11.00) was found in the treatment T12 which was statistically identical with T7 treatment. The lowest number of grain (8) was observed in the control treatment. Grain yield and straw yield of wheat plants were significantly influenced with the application of B along with PM. It was found that the application of 8 kg B ha-1 with 10 t PM ha-1 produced the highest grain (5.62 t ha-1) and straw (4.16 t ha-1) yield. The control treatment produced the lowest grain (3.09 t ha-1) and straw (2.13 t ha-1) yield. The findings of the study showed that the performance of the treatment T7 (PM5B8) was the best among the other treatments in respects of plant height, tillers hill-1 , number of grain spike-1, spike length, grain yield and straw yield of wheat. Therefore, the overall results indicate that the application of 8 kg B ha-1 with 10 t PM ha-1 can be more efficient and economic for wheat production.en_US
