Abstract
To assess the internal efficiency of secondary schools in Dinajpur district, northern
region of Bangladesh using purposive sampling technique for the collection of data in
this study. The researcher targeted four (4) secondary schools out of the different
secondary schools in the district. A sample of 250 students and 50 teachers were selected
for the study using simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using
descriptive analysis, binary logistic regression and Pearson Chi-Square. Results showed
that a significant relationship existed between the internal efficiency (grade point
average) and adequacy of physical resources, reasons for chosen the school, factors
responsible for low grade, and teaching methods. The study also concluded that age and
sex have influence with the internal efficiency. Findings also revealed that student‟s
family background such as father‟s education, mother‟s education, family income and
family expenditure were found to be significant with the internal efficiency. Based on the
findings the study concluded that Governmental schools are better according to
nongovernmental schools. The study also showed that availability of physical facilities
encouraged meaningful learning and teaching. Improving the physical facilities can help
to improve the internal efficiency (grade point average). The researcher recommends that
the government and education stakeholders ensure that teaching/ learning materials and
school physical facilities are availed sufficiently in all secondary schools, to improve the
internal efficiency of secondary schools in the provision of secondary education.
