    EFFECT OF DIFFERENT IRRIGATION LEVELS ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF MUSTARD VARIETIES

    Abstract
    The experiment was conducted at research field and laboratory in the Department of Crop Physiology and Ecology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, during the period of November 2012 to April 2013. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. The experiment comprised of two sets of factors such as A: Three varieties such as, V; = BARI Sharisa 9, V2 = BARI Sharisa 11 and V3 =BARI Sharisa 15; B: three irrigation levels like, Ip=no irrigation, I;=one irrigation at 25 DAS, I,=two irrigation at 25 and 50 DAS. In the present study, irrigation was applied as main plot treatment and varieties for sub-plot treatment. BARI Sharisa 11 (V2) took the longest days to attain all the phenological stages while BARI Sharisa 9 (V)) took the lowest days. Growth parameter like LA and TDM also highest in V2 and the reverse results were obtained in case of BARI Sharisa 9 (V,). Application of I; irrigation took the highest days to attain their phenological stages and produced maximum LA and TDM at all growth stages and Io gave the reverse results. All the yield parameters like number of siliqua plant’, 1000-seed weigth, seed yield, stover yield and HI except number of seed siliqua’' produced the highest value with BARI Sharisa 11 on the other hand, variety V; produced reverse results of V3. In case of irrigation level, I; plant produced highest value of the yield components, seed yield and HI and the Ip produced reverse results of V; for all above cases. The interaction of BARI Sharisa 11 with I, irrigation level produced the highest value of all the yield components, yield and HI excluding number of seeds per siliqua. Finally, from the overall results, it might be concluded that the combination of BARI Sharisa 11 with the application of two irrigations (Iz) is the best treatment for better growth, development, yield and yield components of mustard.
