Bangladesh is a highly density populated country in the world where 31.5% of the population is ultra poor. To uplift the status of the people many projects are running on. An experiment was conducted on a food security project which aims to reduce poverty and hunger of the ultra poor people through different activities. One of the key aspects of food security project is the provision of asset grant which will be chosen and utilized by the individual beneficiaries for investing in a productive IGA (Income Generating Activities). This is intended to contribute to the increased productive assets and enhanced household income through diversified economic activities; improved capacity to manage income generating activities (IGAs); increased access to information, business linkages; resources and services. Livestock basis IGA information has been collected through interview and discussion with the project beneficiaries and the field level staff of the project. It was shown that most beneficiaries have taken livestock (cattle fattening, sheep/goat rearing, poultry rearing) as their IGA. They rear this and get profit but they do not know cost benefit regarding these IGA and how this improvement will sustain. This study focuses on the rationale for selection of the IGA, cost profit analysis, risk associated with the IGA and their sustainability process. So that the poor people can select appropriate IGA that will uplift their economic and social status.en_US
