EFFECT OF VARIOUS SOCIO-ECONOMIC FACTORS ON THE PROFITABILITY OF SMALL SCALE CATTLE FATTENING FARM IN DINAJPUR DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

Abstract
Cattle fattening for beef production have become an important business of the small farmers
in Bangladesh. A large number of farmers involved in cattle farming just before 3 or 4
months of Eid-Ul-Azha, when they sell the animals with high prices. The experiment was
conducted to investigate the effect of various socio-economic factors on the profitability of
cattle fattening farm of rural farmers at the three Upazillas (Fulbari, Birampur and Hakimpur)
in Dinajpur district of Bangladesh through field survey. Data were collected from randomly
selected 60 farmers who involved in small scale cattle fattening through personal interview
schedule during the period from 20" June to 20" August, 2013. The selected socio-economic
factors included age, level of education, experience of farming, size of the farm, training,
technology used and vaccination.
