EFFECT OF BAP AND NAA ON THE PHYSIOLOGY, GROWTH AND YIELD PERFORMANCE OF BARI MOOG-6

Abstract
An experiment was conducted at the field laboratory of the Department of
Agricultural Chemistry, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology
University, Dinajpur during the period from March 2013 to June 2013 to investigate
the effect of plant growth regulators (PGRs) on physiology, growth and yield
attributes of mungbean cv. BARI moog-6. The experiment was comprised of two
PGRs namely naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) with
three concentrations of each viz., 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 150 ppm and fresh water as
control treatment sprayed on mungbean at 25 days after sowing (DAS) and before
flowering stage. The two-factor experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete
Block Design with four replications. Results revealed that BAP and NAA application
increased morpho-physiological characteristics viz., plant height, leaf number per
plant, leaf length, leaf breadth, dry root weight, dry stem weight, dry leaf weight,
chlorophyll contents, proline contents, and yield attributes viz., pod length, number of
seed per pod over control being the highest in 150 ppm concentration. Results
indicated that performance of morpho-physiological and yield contributing characters
of mungbean was better in BAP than NAA. For interaction, BAP with 150 ppm
concentration produced the highest seed yield (1.564 t ha') followed by 150 ppm
NAA (1.549 t ha’'). Therefore BAP and NAA spraying twice at vegetative and preflowering stages might be recommended for maximizing seed yield of summer
mungbean cv. BARI moog-6.
