EFFECT OF BAU-BIOFUNGICIDE AND SOME PLANT EXTRACTS AGAINST ROOT-KNOT (Meloidogyne javanica) OF PAPAYA

Abstract

Five treatments viz. BAU-Biofungicide (Trichoderma spp.), Bashak (Adhatoda vasica), Pineapple (Ananas sp.) and Mustard oil cake (Brassica campestris) extrascts(S) along with a control were tested against root-knot of papaya caused by Meloidogyne javanica followed in seed treatment and soil drenching methods (7 days before and 7 days after inoculation). Among the treatments, BAU-Biofungicide and Bashak leaf extract gave superior result as it had increased shoot and root length as well as fresh weight of shoot and root correspondingly with the lowest galling incidence in papaya in all methods. Better effect on plant growth characters with lower galling incidence and development of the nematode was observed with Pineapple extract and Mustard oil cake extract compared to control.
