Bangladesh is an agricultural country; more than 70% of her population depends on farming for their livelihood. Farming systems are basically subsistence in nature but still important from national economic point of view. Agriculture contributes about 21.75% of the total GDP (BBS, 2004). Crop sector alone contributes 12.43% of the GDP. Bangladesh is a highly populated country and its population density is increasing day by day. Scarcity of food has become a chronic problem of this country. To mitigate the food shortage, measures should be taken to increase total food production.en_US
An experiment was conducted at the experimental field of the Department of Soil Science, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during November 2012 to March 2013 to evaluate the suitability of wheat cultivation with inorganic fertilizer application. The experiment was laid out following Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments of the experiment involved were, T; (Control); T, (25% of the recommended dose of fertilizers); T; (50% of the recommended dose of fertilizers); T, (75% of the recommended dose of fertilizers); T; (100% of the recommended dose of fertilizers). And the variety which was involved in the experiment, V,= Shotabdi, V>= Prodip, V3= Bijoy, V4= Sufi, V5= BARI gom -25, Voe= BARI gom-26, V7= BARI gom-27 and Vg= BARI gom-28.In case of growth parameter better results shows in the T; treatments i.e. 100% of the recommended dose of fertilizers and shotabdi, prodip and BARI gom 28 shows good results than other varieties. In the analysis of soil shotabdi variety maximum nitrogen content (0.07%) of wheat was found in the treatment T; (100% fertilizers), prodip variety (0.07 %) in the treatment T, & T, (25 &75% fertilizers), bijoy (0.06%) in Ty, Sufi (0.07) in T, & Ts, BARI gom 25 (0.06%) in T, & Ts, BARI gom 26 (0.07%) in Ty, BARI gom 27 (0.13%) in T;, BARI gom 28 (0.07%) in T,. In case of Phosphorus shotabdi variety maximum P content (35.1 yg/gm soil) in Ty, prodip (40.8 yg/gm soil) in Ts, bijoy (41.5 ug/gm soil) in Ts, sufi, (42.5 ug/gm soil) in Ty, BARI gom 25 (34.5 pg/gm soil) in Ts, BARI gom 26 (32.6 pg/gm soil) in Ts, BARI gom 27 (45.5 pg/gm soil) in T;, BARI gom 28 (38.7 ug/gm soil) in Ts. In case of K content shotabdi shows maximum (0.22 Meq/100gm soil) in T>, prodip (0.15 Megq/100gm soil) in Ts, sufi (0.18 Meq/100gm soil) in T;, BARI gom 25 (0.2 Meq/100gm soil) in T3, BARI gom 26 (0.14 Meq/100gm soil) in T;, BARI gom 27 (0.17 Meq/100gm soil) in Ts, BARI gom 28 (0.16 Meq/100gm soil) in Ts treatment. In case of S contemnt prodip sshows highest (2.27 pg/gm soil) in T4, BARI gom 26 (4.9 yug/gm soil) in Ts, BARI gom 28 (4.04 pg/gm soil) in Ty treatments. In case of varietal performance the maximum yield of wheat was noted in the variety V, is 3.19 t/ha in T;, V2 is 2.8 t/ha in Ty, V3is 2.74 tha in Ts, V4 is 3.96 t/ha inTs, V;is 2.77 t/ha in Ts, Ve is 3.04 t/ha in T4, V7 is 2.31 t/ha in Ty and Vis 3.5 t/ha is Ts. Prodip variety of wheat shows better performance in case of biomass production.en_US
