Abstract
An experiment was carried out in the on-station RDRS research farm, Monthona,
Rangpur during July 2009 to November 2009 to study the effect of transplanting time
and number of seedlings hill’ on growth, yield and yield components of rice varietyBINA dhan-7. The experiment was conducted in two factors Randomized Completely
Block Design (RCBD) with three replications considering three planting time
(26th July ,4th August and 14th August of 2009) as factor A and three levels of
seedlings hill''( 1, 2and 3 seedlings hill') as Factor B. The highest total dry matter
(TDM) was obtained from treatment combination on 14 August transplanted with 3
seedlings hill’ and the lowest TDM was found on 26 July with 2 seedlings hill! at 16,
40 and 60 DAT. At 16-40 days after transplanting (DAT), the highest crop growth rate
(CGR,15.69 g m°day”') was found in 14 August transplanting with 2 seedlings hill”
and 26 July with 1 seedling hill provided the lowest CGR (10.84 g m*day”). At 40-
60 DAT, the highest CGR (31.30 g m’day"') was found in 14 August transplanting
with 3 seedlings hill'' and 26 July transplanting with 3 seedlings hill’ provided the
lowest CGR (23.13 g m’day”').Transplanting during 26 July rice with 1 seedling hill”
provided the highest leaf area index (5.25) and the lowest leaf area index was found
when | seedlings hill’' were transplanted on 14 August (2.92). Early transplanting with
lower number of seedlings hill’ performed better in respect to number of effective
tillers hill'', spikelets panicle’', filled grains panicle’ and 1000-grains weight than
delay planting with greater number of seedlings hill’.
