Nature gives us a wide range of plants. There are different types of plants such as herbal plants or medicinal plants, fruit trees, woody plants, necrotic plants, herbaceous plants, shrubs, weeds etc. in plant kingdom. The plant kingdom supplies us with food, fuel, fodder, shelter, raw materials for clothing and medicine. Different types of naturally occurring organic, bio-organic compound have been isolated from plants. Most of them have effective medicinal values, growth regulatory effects, herbicidal and pesticidal effects and also toxic values. According to who estimates, around 80% ofthe world’s 5.86 billion inhabitants depend on traditional medicine for their primaiy health care, majority ofwhich use plant or their active principles (Uddin, 1998)en_US
An experiment was conducted on bioassay of different extracts of GuJancha {Tinospora cordifoUd) on three vegetable crops such as, swamp cabbage (Impoea aquatica), lady’s finger (Hibiscus esculentus) and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentus). The chemical investigation on effective plant extract was also performed. The ethanol extract of Tinospora cordifolia significantly enhanced germination percentage, growth of shoot length and root length of swamp cabbie, lady’s finger and tomato seeds, respectively, compared with control. But the aqueous extract of Tinospora cordifolia reduced and delayed germination, growth of shoot length and root length of these vegetable crops. The highest germination percentage was 81.33% at 7 days after sowing seedling found in tomato seeds treated with ethanol extract (T2) while the lowest germination percentage 12.00% was with aqueous extract (Ti) at 2 DAS in lady’s finger .The highest germination percentage was with T2 at 7 DAS for tomato, swamp cabbage, lady’s finger but the lowest germination percentage was with Ti at 2 DAS in those vegetables. The Shoot length of swamp cabbage at different DAS influenced significantly by the effects of different extract. At 11 Days after sowing (DAS) with the ethanol extract ofGulancha showed the highest shoot length (4.54 cm) of swamp cabbage whereas the lowest shoot length (1.503 cm) was recorded with aqueous extract ofswamp cabbage. The Root length ofswamp cabbage seedling at different days after sowing was the lowest at 5 DAS but it showed an increasing trend 11 DAS. Shoot length of lady’s finger at different days after sowing influenced by the effects of different extract. At 11 Days after sowing (DAS) with ethanol extract of Gulancha showed the highest shoot length (5.74cm) whereas no shoot was grown with aqueous. The Root length of lady’s finger seedling at different days after sowing was lowest at 11 DAS and showed an increasing trend up to 11 DAS. The thin layer chromatography (TLC) of ethanol extracts of Tinospora cordifolia indicated that it contained five compounds at Hexane; Ethyl acetate (10:1, v/v).en_US
