Abstract
The prevalence of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) antibody in chickens in 05
selected small scale layer Farms in Dinajpur district of Bangladesh was determined
during the period March to August, 2010. To conduct this study a total of 304
(10% birds of farm) sera samples were collected. Rapid Serum Plate Agglutination
(SPA) test was performed using commercial MG antigen to detect the presence of
antibodies against MG. The over all prevalence of MG antibody was 54.6% in the
study area. The highest prevalence (61.7) was found at March-April followed MayJune (50.8) and July-August (47.73). The result further revealed that the infection
was higher (69.6%) in young birds than in adult birds (50.4%). It was also
demonstrated that the infection was higher (68.5%) in large flocks than in small
flocks (50.10%). M. gallisepticum was isolated from tracheal swabs obtained from
seropositive birds by inoculating the tracheal swabs into Mycplasma agar and
Mycoplasma broth media during the period of study.
