Poultry industry is a rising sector in Bangladesh. Poultry eggs and meat provide approximately 38% of total animal protein in Bangladesh. Many small and medium farmers are rearing poultry in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is considered as one of the most appropriate countries in the world for poultry rearing (FAO, 1999). Poultry is essential to the national economy of Bangladesh and the welfare of human beings as well. But the advancement of poultry industry is being hampered seriously by some fatal infectious and noninfectious diseases. Avian leukosis virus (ALV) infection has been regarded as one of the important causes of economic damage in the poultry industry (Spencer, 1984).en_US
The aim of this study was observed the pathological lesions of avian leukosis in Rangpur district. In a period of six months, a total of 433 birds were observed. Layer birds (13.3%) were mostly affected than broiler (6.73%). Birds reared in a poultry farm were mostly affected than in backyard system (20.74%). Mortality of affected birds experienced at the age of 16 weeks and above.Histopathological lesions of clinical samples were studied and lesions included homogeneous population of lymphoblasts, nodular and diffuse in liver, diffuse infiltration of lymphocytes with mitotic figures in the liver, displacement and compression of the hepatic parenchyma by the accumulation of large number of neoplastic lymphocytes, which were characterized by round cells, scanty cytoplasm and deep staining nuclei and distorted hepatic cords and severely congested blood vessels.en_US
