Abstract
The present research work was performed for the isolation and identification of
different microbial flora from cloacal swab collected from day old chicken just
after hatching. The entire research work was conducted primarily in the
Microbiology laboratory of the Department of Microbiology, Hajee Mohammad
Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur. Out of 50 cloacal swab
sample a total of 40 bacterial isolates were isolated and identified. Among these 40
isolates 20 (50%) were E. coli, 10 (25%) were Salmonella spp. , 8 (20%) were
Staphycoccus spp. and 2 (5%) were unidentified. Present study indicated that E.
coli was the dominant bacterial species in the cloacal swab of day old chicks just
after birth.
