VARIETAL PERFORMANCE OF TRANSPLANTED AMAN RICE INFLUENCED BY SPACING UNDER MANGO BASED AGROFORESTRY SYSTEM

Abstract
A field experiment was carried out at the Agroforestory research field, Hajee
Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur,
during June to November 2012 to evaluate the performance of 3 transplanted
aman rice variety under 2 production system viz. rice in sole cropping and rice +
mango based agroforestory system with 3 distinct spacing viz. 20, 25 and 30 cm.
Three transplanted aman rice varieties viz. (Binadhan-7, BRRI dhan49 and Katari
bhog) were used as test crop. The experiment was laid out in Randomized
Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The data were collected
at 45, 60, and 75 DAT (days after transplanting) and finally after harvesting. The
effect of spacing on yield of rice (3.55 t ha’') was produced highest in 25 cm
spacing (S» ) and the lowest (3.30 t ha’) in 30 cm spacing (S3). Again the varietals
effect, the results showed that significant variation was found among the variety.
Significantly the highest grain yield (3.66 t ha’) was found in Binadhan-7 (V)),
Which is followed by BRRI dhan49 (V2) and the lowest grain yield (3.13 t ha’)
was recorded in Katari bhog (V3). Incase of production system, the highest grain
yield (3.41 t ha’) was found in open condition (T,) and the lowest grain yield
(3.39 t ha’') was recorded in mango + rice production system (T}). Finally, the
grain yield (t ha’') was also influenced due to the interaction of production system,
spacing and variety. The highest grain yield (3.88 t ha’) was found in T,S)V,
treatment combination and the lowest grain yield (3.03 t ha’') was recorded both
in T,S,V3 and T,S3V3 treatment combination, respectively. Therefore, it will be
mentioned that most of the transplanted aman rice variety are suitable for yield in
agroforestry system in association with 25 cm spacing; but their degree of
suitability will be as Binadhan-7 > BRRI dhan49 > katari bhog.
