The poultry farming is getting momentum during the last decades in Bangladesh. There is about 1 lac poultry farms have been established in private sector in addition to 37 established government poultry farms in Bangladesh (Samad, 2003).en_US
The experiment was undertaken to show the effects of age on growth and development of oviduct of ISA Brown chicken. Live samples were collected randomly from 6 small scale layer farms of Dinajpur district and are carried to the laboratory of Anatomy and Histology in the Department of Anatomy and Histology of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, where the weight of live birds, the whole and the segmental weight, length and diameter of the oviduct were measured. A part of those anatomic structures were preserved, processed, sectioned and stained for histological study. The data obtained from various parameters in present study were subjected to statistical analysis. Among the segments of the oviduct, the growth and the weight gain of magnum were fastest than other. The uterine diameter was faster than other segments. Histologically the infundibulum of the oviduct showing tongue shaped villa with short columnar epithelium at 3 weeks, which become tortous at 23 weeks and taller branched and highly developed mucosal folds with fibroblast cells, sperm-host glands in the core of the villa, developed tunica muscularis at 46 weeks. The magnum showing the aggregated lymphocytes and collagen fibers in the lamina propria at 23 weeks. The uterus at 23 weeks showing well developed branched tubular uterine glands, huge amount of collagen fibers, lymphocytes and reduced fibroblast cells. The vagina showing large number of elongated villa with ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium, huge number of sperm host glands, developed tunica muscularis: inner circular and outer longitudinal muscular layers at 46 weeks of age. From the above facts and findings it can be concluded that ISA Brown layer strain has a higher oviductal growth and therefore better egg characteristics. So that ISA Brown Chicken may be recommended for the small scale commercial layer farming in Bangladesh.en_US
