Abstract
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), a concept of engaging the bank in socially responsible
behavior, is getting worldwide attention since couple of decades. Though initially thought to be
a developed country concept, it already has made its strong presence in the developing
countries like Bangladesh. There are tremendous encouragement coming from CSR activities
made the scenario vibrant and CSR policy of banks is now a top issue. This study analyze data
from Rupali Banks CSR performance from the Bangladeshi banking sector and finds that CSR
expenditure by banks increases over time. The major areas of CSR activities include education,
humanitarian and disaster relief, arts and culture, sports, environment, health etc. However, the
reporting of CSR expenditure is not yet perfect though the central bank has made it mandatory
in 2008. In some cases, banks disclose qualitative information rather than quantitative in case
of CSR initiatives. RBPLC is serving the market with almost full range of services. CSR has a
significant role in the banking industry. It aids in achieving the company's goals. Through its
actions, it encourages a good impact on the environment, customers, employees, community
stakeholders, and the rest of the public. RBPLC engages in CSR because it fosters positive
sentiment. Additionally, it makes the bank more popular with the public, allowing it to take in
additional deposits. They benefit from increased profits.
