Abstract
Sonali Bank Limited was incorporated in Bangladesh on 03 June 2007 as a Public Limited
Company under Companies Act, 1994 with its Head office at Dhaka and isgoverned by the
Bank Companies Act, 1991. Subsequently on 15 November 2007 the bank took over the
undertaking and business of Sonali Bank with all its assets, benefits, rights, powers,
authorities, privileges, liabilities, borrowings and obligations etc. as a going concern under a
Vendor’s Agreement signed between the Government of the People’s Republic of
Bangladesh and the Sonali Bank Ltd with a retrospective effect from 1st July 2007. It is
now a fully state owned largest Commercial Bank in Bangladesh. The Bank has 1181
branches including two overseas branches at Kolkata and Siliguri in India as on 31
December 2008. During the year I(one) branch was opened and 3 (three) branches were
merged with two other branches. The corporate branch of Sonali bank, Rangpur branch
performs activities as like to provide a comprehensive range of financial services, personal
and commercial banking; trade and services, cash management; treasury; securities and
custody services and perform Government treasury functions as an agent of the Bangladesh
