    Abstract
The field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Research Field, Department of Agronomy, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during Boro season to evaluate the effect of dose and application time of Mannitol on the growth and yield of BRRI dhan50. The experiment was comprised of two factor viz. A. Dose ( 0 mM, 75 mM, 150 mM, 225 mM, 300 mM, 375 mM of Mannitol) and B. Application time of Mannitol ( 50 DAT and 75 DAT). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The data on crop growth characters viz. plant height (cm), number of total tillers hill-1 were recorded at 30 DAT, 60 DAT, 90 DAT and during harvest and yield as well as yield attributing characters viz. number of effective and non-effective tillers hill-1, panicle length (cm), number of filled grain panicle-1, number of unfilled grain panicle-1, 1000-grains weight (g), grain yield (t ha-1), straw yield (t ha-1), biological yield (t ha-1) and harvest index (%) were recorded at harvest. D4 (225 mM of Mannitol) showed the highest number of total tillers hill-1 (26.67), effective tillers hill-1 (24.60), the minimum number of non-effective tillers hill-1 (1.20), panicle length 24.10 (cm), total grain panicle-1 (189.45), number of filled grains panicle-1 (185.08 ), the minimum number of unfilled grains panicle-1 (4.36), 1000-grain weight 19.82(g), grain yield 6.24 (t ha-1), harvest index 45.73% and D1 ( 0 mM of Mannitol) showed the lowest number of total tillers hill-1 (20.53), effective tillers hill-1 (15.67), the highest number of non-effective tillers hill-1 (4.87), total grain panicle-1 (168.65), panicle length (19.96 cm), number of filled grains panicle-1 (146.47), the highest number of unfilled grains panicle-1 (22.18), thousand-grain weight (17.65 gm), and lowest grain yield (4.53t ha-1).In the case of time of Mannitol application T1 (50DAT) showed the highest number of total tillers hill-1 (24.43), effective tillers hill-1 (21.64 ), the minimum number of non-effective tillers hill-1 (2.79), total grain panicle-1 (189.45), panicle length 22.41 (cm), number of filled grains panicle-1 (168.98), a minimum number of unfilled grains panicle-1 (12.07), 1000-grain weight 19.24 (g) and highest grain yield (5.67t ha-1), biological yield (13.18 t ha-1). T1D4 treatment combination showed the highest yield 6.47 (t ha-1). However, BRRI dhan50 showed a higher yield in the treatment combination of T1D4 (50 DAT and 225 mM of Mannitol) in the experiment.
