Evaluation of Selected Fungicides Against Late Blight of Potato Caused By Phytophthora infestans

Abstract
Late blight (Phytophthora infestans), the most devastating disease of potato, was
found prevalent in all the potato growing areas of the world. The pathogen infected all
parts of the plant and caused premature death of the entire plant. In the present study,
fungicides of various number of application were evaluated to manage the devastating
disease of potato. The fungicide applied in the field were Indofil, Metaril, Secure and
Cabrio top. The study was conducted in the Plant Pathology research field of Hajee
Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University during 2022-2023 cropping
season. The application of fungicides resulted in the lesser late blight development in
comparison to control. Late blight disease severity (DS) was lowest in Secure (4.33%)
at 80 DAS where is given triple application followed by Cabrio Top (6.66%) and
Indrofil M (6.33%) Fungicides application proved very effective in controlling late
blight of potato and also delayed the initial symptom development. Application of
Secure with three times apply showed the highest plant height, increased number of
stem compared to non-treated control plant as well as less number of application of
other fungicides. Comparatively the less percentage of disease incidence (DI) was also
recorded in all the fungicide treated plant. Maximum amount of A and B grade tuber
was collected from three times fungicide treated plot and that was minimum in control
plot. Highest yield was obtained in Secure (19.09 ton/ha) followed by Indofil M
(17.77 ton/ha) where was also given triple application. The findings of the study
suggest applying Secure with its three times application to control late blight of potato
for showing significantly lowest disease prevalence and higher yield.
