    Abstract
Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) belonging to Gramineae family is an important cereal in the world. Selection of diseases resistant genotype offer durable and efficient protection from various diseases including spot blotch or foliar blight caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana (Sacc.)Shoemaker. The present investigation was aim to screen 50 barley genotype against spot blotch diseases. The identification of the causal organism of spot blotch on the basis of ITS gene sequence, phylogenetic analysis by neighbor joining method and pathogenicity test confirmed as Bipolaris sorokiniana. The screening of 50 barley genotypes through artificial inoculation revealed one resistance genotype (BD-9703) and a large group composed with thirty genotype includes in cluster I (BD-7198, BD-7202, BD-7199, BD-7195, BD-7185, BD-7189, BD-7204, BD-7206, BD-7203, BD-10822) and cluster IV (BD-9700, BD-10825, BD-7191, BD-7193, BD-10828, BD-8573, BD 7192, BD-10823) possess moderate resistant reactions; cluster I (BD-7198, BD-7202, BD-7199, BD-7195, BD-7185, BD-7189, BD-7204, BD-7206, BD-7203, BD-10822) and V (BD-9693, BD-9694, BD-9680, BD-9684) showed high yielding genotypes. On the basis of diseases resistance and high yielding potentiality, the following genotypes viz., BD-7206, BD-7196, BD-7202, BD-7203 were selected as the superior genotypes in regards to the spot blotch disease. Based on agronomic traits, BD-7202, BD-7194, BD 7197, BD-7204 and BD-9694 were found with good agronomic traits like the highest yield, lowest days to heading, lowest days to maturity, higher filled grain per head, number of tiller per plant and longest head length. Before recommendation to the release of the selected genotype for the cultivation in the farmers field level, location specific trial need to conduct.
