EXOGENOUS APPLICATION OF LANTHANUM ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF AROMATIC RICE CULTIVARS; A THESIS BY MOSLIMA KHATUN, Student No. 1701041, Session: 2022-2023, Semester: January-June 2024; MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRONOMY, DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY, HAJEE MOHAMMAD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR-5200; JUNE 2024.en_US
A field study was carried out at the Agronomy research field of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur-5200, from July 2023 to December 2023 to examine the impact of lanthanum (La) on the yield and quality of scented rice cultivars. This two-factor experiment was carried out using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications where Factor A comprised of three cultivars (V1: Katharivog, V2: Kalijira, and V3: Tulsimala) and Factor B was four doses of lanthanum (L1 = 0 ppm (control), L2 = 50 ppm, L3 = 100 ppm, and L4 = 150 ppm of lanthanum). Data on vegetative stage: plant height, tiller number and harvesting stage: effective tiller, non-effective tiller, panicle length, number of grains per panicle, number of filled grains per panicle, number of unfilled grains per panicle, 1000 grain weight, grain yield, straw yield, total weight, biological index and harvest index was recorded. Results indicate substantial differences in all parameters of rice for the cultivars and treatments. When compared to Katharivog (V1) and Kalijira (V2), Tulsimala (V3) usually showed higher yields (2.86 t ha-1), with the highest value in plant height (150.32 cm), total and effective tillers (20.39), panicle length (22.73 cm), and 1000-grain weight (13.43 g). Higher amounts of lanthanum (150 ppm) significantly improved the productivity of grain (2.63 t ha-1), straw (5.59 t ha-1), biological yield (8.13 t ha-1), and harvest index (30.99%) than other concentrations of La. Results from studies indicate that lanthanum has a beneficial impact on the growth and productivity of aromatic rice. Among the varieties, Tulsimala (V3) showed the possibility of enhancing agricultural productivity when treated with suitable amounts of lanthanum. It may be suggested that the concentrations of La (150 ppm) might be applied to the aromatic rice field to get maximum profit for the farmers.en_US
