Abstract
An experiment was conducted during the period from November 2022 to March 2023 at
the research field of the Department of Agronomy, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science
and Technology University, Dinajpur-5200 to assess the effect of Salicylic acid and
Gibberellic acid on yield and yield-attributing characteristics of mustard. The experiment
comprised of two factors, namely, Factor A: Doses of salicylic acid: four levels, viz., S1=
0 ppm (control), S2=125 ppm, S3=250 ppm and S4= 375 ppm and three levels of
Gibberellic acid viz., G1= 0 ppm (control), G2 = 50 ppm, and G3= 100 ppm. It consisted
of twelve different treatment combinations. Both the factors (salicylic acid dose and
gibberellic acid) were significantly affected on plant height (cm), number of siliqua
plant-1, number of seeds siliqua-1, thousand seed weight (gm), seed yield (t ha-1), stover
yield (t ha-1), biological yield (t ha-1) and harvest index (%) of BARI mustard
14 (Brassica spp.). Considering the application of different doses of salicylic acid, the
maximum siliqua plant-1 (9.75), seeds siliqua-1 (26.56), 1000-seed weight (2.80g), seed
yield (1.61 t ha-1), stover yield (3.28 t ha-1), biological yield (4.90 t ha-1) and harvest
index (32.88%) were observed in S3 (250 ppm) and the minimum number of siliqua
plant-1 (7.38), seeds siliqua-1 (21.32), 1000-seeds weight (2.26g), seed yield (1.06 t ha-1),
stover yield (2.57 t ha-1), biological yield (3.63 t ha-1) and harvest index (29.16℅) were
observed in S1 (0 ppm that is control). In case of different doses of GA3, the maximum
siliqua plant-1 (9.84), seeds siliqua-1 (24.70), 1000-seed weight (2.64 g), seed yield (1.40 t
ha-1), stover yield (3.02 t ha-1), biological yield (4.43 t ha-1) and harvest index (31.56%)
were recorded in G3 (100 ppm), while the minimum number of siliqua plant-1 (7.89),
seeds siliqua-1 (22.32), 1000-seed weight (2.40 g), seed yield (1.25 t ha-1), stover yield
(2.83 t ha-1), biological yield (4.08 t ha-1) and harvest index (30.45%) were observed in
G1(control). In case of interaction effect of salicylic and gibberellic acid, the maximum
number of siliqua plant-1 (11.12), seeds siliqua-1 (27.67), 1000-seed weight (3.04 g), seed
yield (1.73 t ha-1), stover yield (3.40 t ha-1), biological yield (5.13 t ha-1) and harvest
index (33.78%) were recorded in S3G3 treatment combination. The minimum number
siliqua plant-1 (6.58), seeds siliqua-1 (20.30), 1000-seed weight (2.20 g), seed yield (0.99 t
ha-1), stover yield (2.50 t ha-1), biological yield (3.49 t ha-1) and harvest index (28.46%)
were observed in S1G1 combination, respectively. So, it may be suggested that (250 ppm)
combined with gibberellic acid (100 ppm) showed better results for growth and yield of
mustard.
