    Abstract
The experiment was conducted to study the growth regulatory activities of some leaves of ornamental plants on okra in pot condition. Different leaf extracts of ornamental plants viz., Parrot tree (Butea monosperma), Mussaenda (Mussaenda erythrephytta), Mast Tree (Polyanthia longifolia), Thuja (Thuja orientalis) and Hiptage (Hiptage madablota) were used as experimental treatments. The experiment was laid out in a single factor randomized complete block Design (RCBD) with five replications. Observation was made on parameters like days to first germination (G;), time of 50% germination (Ts0), co-efficient of germination, vigor index, germination index, germination percentage and seedling growth like shoot length and root length. In general, most of the leaf extracts showed faster seed germination and seedling growth. Okra seeds started to germinate within 3 days with the leaf extract of Parrot tree that is faster germination occurred with Parrot tree leaf extract. Similarly completion of 50% germination taken lowest days (3.65 days) than other treatments. Slower germination and 50% germination was found with control. Coefficient of germination, vigor index, germination index and final germination percentage perform better with the leaf extract of Parrot tree than others and produced the highest value that is 34.92%, 52.83, 14.60 and 96.80%, respectively. In those cases control showed the lowest values. In case of shoot length and root length increased with the days after sowing (DAS). At 10 DAS, 15 DAS, 20 DAS, 25 DAS and 30 DAS both shoot length and root length gave the highest values with the leaf extract of Parrot tree and control gave the lowest values. After thin layer chromatography distinctly four compounds designated as C;, C2, C3 and Cy, for chloroform extract at Hexane: Ethylacetate (5:1 v/v) and Pj, Po, P3 and P, for ethanol extract at Alcohol: Ethylacetate (3:1 v/v) was showed by TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) of chloroform extract and ethanol extract of Parrot tree (Butea monospema) .Here the intensity of non-polar compound like C; and polar compound like P,was too much high comparison with others. The results in this experiment indicate that the aqueous extracts of different plant species have growth regulatory activity on germination parameters and growth parameters like shoot length and root length on okra vegetable.
