    ANTIBIOTICS USE IN COMMERCIAL BROILER FARMING IN PIRGACHA UPAZILLA UNDER RANGPUR DISTRICT

    Abstract
    This study was conducted in a particular area of Bangladesh to observe whether the farmers are discriminately used antibiotics in broiler farming. The data were collected through an interview schedule from 50 respondents of 5 unions in Pirgacha upazilla under Rangpur district. The farmers were involved in broiler farming. Parameters observed in present study were mainly focused on the socio –economic condition of farmers, secondly whether they use antibiotic in broiler and initially subsequent effect of antibiotic on animals and environment. Collected data were analysed using SPSS. In this study 72% farmer's occupation was agriculture and (23.3%) were involved in poultry business. About 46% farmers had primary education, 10.7% had higher secondary school certificates, 5% obtained above higher secondary certificate and rest of them were illiterate. Irrespective of literacy only about 9.3% of the interviewed farmers had training. About 89.3% respondents used their own labors, 7.3% dependent on hired labor and the rest 3.3% used both the sources regarding the antibiotic use, result were alarming and found that 100% respondents used antibiotic in broiler production. Significant (p<0.01) and non significant association were observed for different parameters such as use of antibiotic, source of money, annual income.
