    Abstract
Plant extracts like upatlangra (Achyranthes aspera), kharazora (Teinostachynum griaffithii), telakucha (Coccinea cordifolia), takamandir (Tinospora cordifolia) and satodrone (Leucas aspera) were used against root-knot of chilli caused by Meloidogyne sp. followed by seed treatment, soil drenching and seed treatment and soil drenching method. Among the treatments, satodrone leaf extract (S) gave superior result as it had increased length of shoot and root, weight of shoot and root, number of fruit and weight of fruit per plant with the lowest galling incidence as well as reduced population (L2, L3, L4 and adult female) of Meloidogyne sp. in chilli in all methods. Better impact on plant growth characters as well as lower galling incidence with reduced population of nematode was observed with satodrone, takamandir, upatlangra, kharazora and telakucha leaf extract (S) compared to control. Lower effect on plant growth character was found with extract (S) of telakucha followed by kharazora, upatlangra, takamandir and satodrone leaf extract (S). Negative correlations between number of galls with length of shoot and root, weight of shoot and root and number of fruit and weight of fruit and positive correlations between number of galls with egg, eggmass, L2, L3, L4 as well as adult female under different treatments indicated the superior effect of the treatments as evident with the lower galling incidence and the suppressive growth of the nematode. All the extracts performed better in seed treatment and soil drenching method than any other methods.
