This research work was conducted during the period between 5th January to 18th February 2018 at animal laboratory under the department of Physiology and Pharmacology in Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University, Dinajpur. The polyherbal formulations are proved effective for the treatment of different disorders than the single drug treatment. So in this experiment Spirulina platensis was used to evaluate the antidiabetic potential/impact on body weight, blood glucose, heamatological and biochemical parameters in alloxan induced diabetic rabbits. Male Newzealand White rabbits (15) having 2.5 to 3 months old of age were selected for the experiment. The study was conducted by dividing the animal into three groups (each group contain 5 rabbits). Group T0, T1 and T2. Group T0 control group supplied with normal pellet feeds and water, T1 diabetic group diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of alloxan @ 150 mg/kg and Group T2 was alloxan (150mg/kg b.w. I/p ly) and spriulina platensis (@ 1000 mg/kg feed) treated group. Results indicated that blood gluse level was reduced and body wt was increased in alloxan induced rabbit by Spirulina. Blood glucose was markedly increased by alloxan induction by destruction of the pancreatic β cells mostly in the central portion of the islets of langerhans. There was significant decreased in blood glucose level in treated group (T2). Packed Cell Volume level was the highest in group T2 which was treated with spirulina compare to the group T0. The Hemoglobin (Hb) concentration gm/dl was the highest in group T2 which was treated with spirulina compare to the group T0. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate was highest in group T1 treated with alloxan and lowest in group T2. Total Leukocyte Count Level was highest in group T1 and the lowest in group T2. The level of SGPT, SGOT, Creatinine was highest in group in T1 and lowest in group T2. Spirulina platensis reduced these levels significantly (P<0.01). The data obtained from this study suggests the use of Spirulina platensis as an antidiabetic herbal formulation with its therapeutic value in treating hyperglycemia and related complications.en_US
