    Abstract
A field experiment was carried out at the Agroforestry and Environment research field, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur, during April to June 2014 to evaluate the performance of 3 yard long bean viz. kagornatoki, YLB 1070 and local variety under 2 production systems viz yard long bean in sole cropping and yard long bean + mango based agroforestry system. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Significantly the highest plant height (124.4, 198.5 and 298.3 cm at 30, 45 and 60 DAS) was found in (T2) yard long bean + mango based agroforestry production system and lowest plant height (117.7, 117.3 and 283.4 cm at 30, 45 and 60 DAS) was observed in sole cropping of yard long bean (T1). The highest yield (4.60 t ha-1) was found in sole cropping of yard long bean (T1) treatment. On the other hand, the effect of yard long bean variety was found varied significantly in growth and yield parameter. The highest plant height (132.7, 208.0 and 311.4 cm at 30, 45 and 60 DAS) was found in (V1) kagornatoki and the lowest plant height (106.3, 179.7 and 267 cm at 30, 45 and 60 DAS) was observed (V3) yard long bean local variety. Significantly the highest yield (5.28 tha1) was found in V2 treatment (YLB 1070) followed by 4.92 tha-1 in V1 treatment (kagornatoki). Conversely, the lowest yield (2.78 tha-1) was measured in V3 (yard long bean local variety), respectively. Number of pods plant-1, pod length, pod diameter, pod weight and yield were statistically highly significant by combine effect of production system and yard long bean variety. Significantly the highest pod length (64.00 cm) was recorded in T1V2 treatment combination (open + YLB 1070) followed by 61.67 cm in T1V1 (open + kagornatoki) treatment combination and the lowest pods length (52.50 cm) in T2V3 treatment combination. The highest pod yield (5.62 tha-1) was recorded in T1V2 treatment combination (open + YLB 1070) that was followed by T1V1 treatment combination (mango + kagornatoki) 5.08 tha-1, respectively. It will be concluded that YLB 1070 is suitable for both sole cropping and mango based agroforestry system.
