A study was conducted in the departmental research field of Agroforestry and Environment, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, Bangladesh during 28th April to 13th December 2018 to evaluate growth and quality of two ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) varieties under different tree such as ghoraneem, litchi and mango based Agroforestry systems. There were four treatments in each experiment with two varieties of ginger (deshi and china) which were laid out in RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) with four replications. The experiment was conducted with two factors i.e. Factor A (four Agroforestry systems) and Factor B (two ginger varieties). Factor A (treatment) were- T1=under Ghora neem, T2= under Litchi, T3= under Mango and T4= Open field (control). Again, factor B (variety) were- V1= Deshi ginger variety and V2= China ginger variety. Therefore, the treatment combinations were T1V1, T1V2, T2V1, T2V2, T3V1, T3V2, T4V1 and T4V2. The experiment results revealed that the growth and quality of ginger were significantly varied by the main effect of different Agroforestry systems. The highest germination speed was found under ghoraneem (T1) and the lowest in open control (T4). Again, the tallest plant was recorded under ghoraneem (T1) and the maximum number of fingers, biggest rhizome length and wide were found under litchi based Agroforestry systems respectively. The highest fresh rhizome weight was 5044.30 kg/ha under ghoraneem (T1) and the lowest was 3625.00 kg/ha in open control (T4) observed. The highest dry rhizome weight was 969.00 kg/ha under mango (T3) and the lowest was 611.90 kg/ha in open control (T4) obtained. On the other hand, the main effect of varieties on growth and quality of ginger were seemed significantly varied. Germination speed was found higher from deshi ginger (V1) and lower from china ginger (V2). Moreover, the taller plant from V2 and the maximum number of fingers, biggest rhizome length and width from V1 were recorded. The higher fresh rhizome weight was 4767.50 kg/ha from V1 and lower was 4426.20 kg/ha from V2 found. The dry rhizome higher weight was 840.98 kg/ha from V2 and lower was 762.80 kg/ha from V1 obtained. The growth and quality of ginger were also significantly influenced by the interaction effect of Agroforestry systems and ginger varieties. The highest germination speed was found under ghoraneem with deshi variety and the lowest was observed under litchi with china variety. Again, the tallest plant was recorded in T1V2, but maximum number of fingers, biggest rhizome length and width were found in T2V1. The highest fresh rhizome weight was 5280 kg/ha in T1V1 and the lowest was 3350.00 kg/ha in T4V2 obtained. The highest dry rhizome weight was 1006.9 kg/ha with T3V2 and lowest was 479.25 kg/ha with T2V1 observed. The relationship between light intensity and fresh ginger rhizome yield was inversely proportional. The highest ginger rhizome yield was 5044.30 kg/ha when the total light intensity was 106.13 LUX under ghoraneem (T1) and the lowest ginger rhizome yield was 3625 kg/ha when the total light intensity was 321.50 LUX in open field (T4). Therefore, it can be concluded that these two ginger varieties could be grown successfully under ghoraneem tree based Agroforestry system.en_US
