Calf mortality among crossbred cattle is a major problem in dairy farms of Bangladesh. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics to control the diseases results drug resistance and limits the therapeutic possibilities in the treatment of the diseases. This research work was conducted to Isolate & identify the bacterial pathogens causing calf mortality. The study was conducted on 121 samples collected from the sick & dead calves, during the period of July, 2014 to December, 2014 brought for the treatment to the Sadar Upazilla veterinary hospital, Dinajpur & 08 different dairy farms under Dinajpur District to find out the occurrence of pathogenic bacteria. Out of 121 samples exmined for bacterial isolates, the number and frequency of distribution in percentage for positive samples were 69 (57.02%) for E. coli, 28 (23.14%) for Salmonella spp., 16 (13.22%) for Pasteurella spp. and 28(23.14%) was negative for bacteria (Nutritional and other than bacterial causes involved). Isolation and identification of the microorganisms were confirmed on the basis of their morphology, staining, cultural & biochemical properties. Antibiotic sensitivity of the isolated organisms were also studied. The antibacterial sensitivity study revealed that these 03 isolates were highly sensitive to Ciprofloxacin, Gentamicin, Erythromycin & Enrofloxacin; moderately sensitive to Erythromycin, Enrofloxacin, Amoxycillin, Doxycycline, Oxytetracycline & Chloramphenicol; Less sensitive to Amoxycillin, Doxycycline, Oxytetracycline, Chloramphenicol, Ampicillin & Streptomycin and resistant to Amoxycillin, Ampicillin, Doxycycline & Streptomycin. The findinings of the experiment indicates that the use of Ciprofloxacin, Gentamicin, Erythromycin & Enrofloxacin, may have the preference to be choice in clinical control of Salmonella, E. coli & Pasteurella causing calf mortality in crossbed cattle in Bangladesh.en_US
