dc.description.abstract | A field experiment was carried out at Mohabolipur, Basherhat under the Chahalgazi union
of sadar upazila of Dinajpur District in front of Hajee Mohammmad Danesh Science and
Technology University Dinajpur, during November 2016 to April 2017 to evaluate the
yield and economic performance of BRRI dhan28 considering different distance of
Eucalyptus tree base agroforestry system under cropland. The experiment was laid out
following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three (3) replications.
Total no of experimental plots were 18. The treatments of the experiment were T1 = Rice
cultivation from one meter distance of the base of eucalyptus tree, T2 = Rice cultivation
from two meter distance ofthe base of eucalyptus tree, T3 = Rice cultivation from three
meter distance of the base of eucalyptus tree, T4 = Rice cultivation from four meter
distance of the base of eucalyptus tree, T5 = Rice cultivation from five meter distance of
the base of eucalyptus tree and T6 = open field (control). The data were recorded in the
following headship plant height (cm), number of tiller hill-1
, number of effective tiller hill1
, number of non effective tiller hill-1
, Effective grain panicle-1
, Non effective grain
panicle-1
, length of panicle (cm), 1000 grain weight (g), grain weight hill-1 (g), straw
weight hill-1 (g), grain yield t ha-1 (g), straw yield t ha-1
(g), harvest index. In case of
economic analysis the benefits and cost ratio was calculated. The data were analyzed
statistically and means were adjusted by DMRT (Duncan’s Multiple Range Test). The
results of the research revealed that significantly, the highest plant height (119.6 cm) was
found in T1 treatment (one meter distance from tree base) and the lowest plant height
(107.8 cm) was obtained from T6 treatment (open field). Again the maximum number of
tiller per hill (20.41) was found in T6 treatment (open field) while the minimum number of
tiller per hill (18.41) was obtained from T1 treatment (one meter distance from tree base).
The highest number of effective tiller per hill (18.83) was found in T6 treatment (open
field) and the lowest number of effective tiller per hill (15.85) was obtained from T1
treatment (one meter distance from tree base). Similarly both the maximum effective grain
per panicle of rice (93.37) and the highest panicle length of rice (22.23cm) were found in
T6 treatment (open field). Moreover, the highest grain weight per hill of rice (35.45 g) was
found in T6 treatment (open field) and the lowest grain weight per hill of rice (29.78g) was
obtained from T1 treatment (one meter distance from tree base). However, it was observed
that rice from the five meter distance (T5) of eucalyptus tree based agroforestry production
system gave the highest net return (71621Tk. /ha) followed by (68696 tk/ha) in rice from
the four meter distance (T4) of eucalyptus tree based agroforestry production system. At
the same time, the lowest net return (52225 Tk. /ha) was received from the sole cropping of BRRI dhan28 (T6). Higher net return was the result of higher gross return from the
higher yield of rice along with the value of eucalyptus tree. The highest benefit-cost ratio
of 1.91 was recorded from the five meter distance (T5) of eucalyptus tree based
agroforestry production system followed by the four meter distance (T4) of eucalyptus tree
based agroforestry production system and the three meter distance (T3) of eucalyptus tree
based agroforestry production system. The lowest benefit-cost ratio of 1.72 was observed
in T6 i.e. in sole cropping of rice BRRI dhan28. So, rice can be profitably cultivated from
the five meter distance (T5) of eucalyptus tree based agroforestry production system. | en_US |
