PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF HYBRIDS RICE AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS IN RANGPUR REGION
Collections
Abstract
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of hybrids rice at different
locations in Rangpur region, during December 2015 to May 2016.The aim of the study
was to compare the growth, yield and yield contributing characteristics of hybrid rice
with location specific as well as farmer‟s opinion. The experiment consisted of two
factors; Factor A: four hybrid rice (V1: BRRI hybrid dhan2; V2: ACI-2, V3: SL-8 and V4:
Krishibid hybrid-1) and Factor B: four locations (L1: Nilphamari, L2: Lalmonirhat, L3:
Rangpur and L4: Kurigram). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Completely
Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data was collected at vegetative and
reproductive stages by measuring several yield contribution characteristics (Plant height,
Number of effective tiller hill-1
, Panicle length, Filled grain panicle-1
, 1000–grain weight,
grain yield) parameters. To ensure good growth of the crop common cultural practices
were adopted in each plot. Growth characters yield and yield attributes were significantly
different among the studied hybrid in different locations. In the study, all hybrid rice
showed better performance in yield related characters viz, effective tillers hill-1
, panicle
length, 1000-grain weight, biological yield, harvest index (HI) over the same hybrid.
Among the four hybrid rice, Krishibid hybrid-1 was the most productive hybrid than that
those of other hybrid rice. Higher grain yield of the hybrids also related with higher dry
matter production and partitioning. However, Krishibid hybrid-1 showed the best
performance closely followed by ACI-2. Among the locations, Krishibid hybrid-1
performed well in Kurigram. Yield components, effective tillers hill-1
and 1000 grain
weight mainly contributed to the higher grain yield of hybrid varieties. These results
suggested that the hybrid rice Krishibid hybrid-1 in Kurigram was relatively best hybrid
than others hybrids in respect of morphological adaptation associated with yield
attributes and grain yield. PVS (Participatory Variety Selection) function was also
conducted in Gangachara, Rangpur, Sadar, Lalmonirhat and Durgapur, Kurigram. BRRI
hybrid dhan3 ranked 1
st at Gangachara, Rangpur ACI-2 ranked 1
st at Sadar, Lalmonirhat
and Krishibid hybrid-l ranked 1
st at Durgapur, Kurigram.
