A THESIS BY TAZRIN ZAFAR SHIFA Examination Roll No. 1705003 Session: 2017-2018 Semester: January-June, 2018 Submitted to the Department of Agronomy Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (M. S.) IN AGRONOMYen_US
The research work was conducted at the regional station of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, (BRRI) Rangpur during the boro season from December 2016 to May 2017 in order to determine the effect of crop establishment method and nutrient management on the performance of BRRI dhan63 during boro season. The treatments consisted of three nutrient managements (N1= AEZ base BRRI recommended nutrient, N2= BARC recommended nutrient, N3=control) and four crop establishment methods (M1= BRRI management 40 day old seedling at 20X20 cm spacing 2 seedling per hill, M2= SRI management 12 day old seedling at 30X30 cm spacing single seedling with SRI water management, M3= Line sowing and M4= Broadcasting) with 12 treatment combination laid out in Randomized Complete Block design with 3 replications. Growth parameters viz., plant height, number of tillers m-2 and yield attributes viz., panicle length, number of panicle m-2 , 1000 grain weight, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield and harvest index were recorded at harvest. In case of nutrient management all the growth parameters gave their highest values at N2= BARC recommended guide nutrient while their corresponding lowest values found in N3= control. The result showed that nutrient management significantly influenced all the crop characteristics. Highest grain yield (4.88 t ha-1 ) was recorded from N2= SRI recommended nutrient and lowest grain yield (3.69 t ha-1 ) was recorded from N3= Control. Other crop establishment methods also significantly influenced maximum parameters. The highest grain yield (5.65 t ha-1 ) was recorded from M2= SRI management 12 day old seedling, 30X30 cm spacing single seedling with SRI water management and lowest grain yield (3.06 t ha-1 ) was recorded from M4= Broadcasting method. The interaction between nutrient management and crop establishment method showed that BARC recommended guide nutrient (N2) and SRI management 12 day old seedling, 30X30 cm spacing single seedling with SRI water management (M2) gave the highest grain yield ( 6.45 t ha-1 ) and the lowest grain yield (1.86 t ha-1 ) was found in Control (N3) and Broadcasting (M4) method. The result of the experiment suggest that BRRI dhan63 would be grown well in BARC recommended nutrient (N2) and SRI management 12 day old seedling, 30X30 cm spacing with SRI water management (M2). However, to reach a specific conclusion the experiment needs to be repeated in different Agro-climatic zones of Bangladesh.en_US
