dc.description.abstractAn experiment was conducted to assess the “Response of yield and quality of mustard varieties to sulphur fertilization” at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during the period of November 2016 through February 2017. The experiment comprised four levels of sulphur viz., 0, 15, 30 and 45 kg ha-1 and three varieties of mustard viz., BARI Sarisha-11, BARI Sarisha-14 and BARI Sarisha-15. The experiment was laid out following a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Both fertilizer dose and variety had significant effect on plant height (cm), number of branches plant-1, number of pod plant-1, pod length (cm), number of seeds pod-1, 1000-seed weight (g), seed yield (t ha-1), stover yield (t ha-1) and biological yield (t ha-1) except harvest index (%). The interaction of fertilizer dose and variety had significant effect on all the parameter studied except harvest index (%) of mustard (Brassica spp.). Yield contributing characters were increased with increasing S level up to 30 kg ha-1 . The highest seed yield (1.57 t ha-1) was recorded in BARI Sarisha-11 when sulphur was applied at 30 kg ha-1. Protein, oil and sulphur content in seed increased significantly with increasing sulphur levels up to 45 kg ha-1. However, protein content, oil content and sulphur content in seed increased with increasing S levels up to 45 kg S ha-1 but 30 kg S and 45 kg S were statistically significant. The highest protein content was recorded in BARI Sarisha-11 but the highest oil and sulphur content was recorded from BARI Sarisha-15. Combined effect of variety and sulphur, the treatment combination of BARI Sarisha-11 with 45 kg S ha-1 produced the maximum protein, oil and sulphur content in seed. The application of S fertilizers had a negative effect on total N, available S, available P and available K content in soil while the application of S fertilizer up to 15 kg S ha-1 showed a significant positive effect on available S status of soil. In case of soil analysis of post-harvest soil, BARI Sarisha-15 shows highest nutrient content with 45 kg sulphur dose.en_US
