NURISLAM Student No. 1605005 Session: 2016-17 Thesis Semester: January-June, 2017 A Thesis Submitted To The Department of Agronomy Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (M.S.) dc.description.abstractThe experiment was conducted at Wheat Research Centre (WRC), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Nashipur, Dinajpur during December, 2016 to May, 2017 in split plot design with three replications to evaluate “performance of different pre- and post-emergence herbicides for weed control in zero-till maize”. Preemergence herbicides were Pendimathalin (Panida) 1000 g a.i. ha-1 and Atrazine 1000 g a.i. ha-1 , and post-emergence herbicides were Atrazine 500 g a.i.ha-1 , Tembotrione (Laudis) 120 g a.i. ha-1 , Halosulfuron Methyl (Sepra) 90 g a.i. ha-1 , Tembotrione (Laudis) + Atrazine 120 g + 500 g a.i. ha-1 (Tank mixture), Halosulfuron Methyl (Sepra) + Atrazine 90 g+500 g a.i. ha-1 (Tank mixture). Results showed that all types (broadleaf, grass, sedge) of weeds were effectively controlled by sequential use of pre- and postemergence herbicides. Considering on plant height, yield and yield attributing of zero-till maize, all parameters were significantly influenced by application of pre-emergence herbicides (Pendimathalin and Atrazine) at immediately after maize seeding followed by sequential use of post-emergence herbicides (Atrazine, Tembotrione, Halosulfuron methyl, Tembotrione + Atrazine , Halosulfuron methyl + Atrazine) applied at 15 DAS (days after seeding). Except cob length, the sequential use of pre- and post-emergence herbicides significantly influenced on plant height at 30, 60 DAS and at harvest , grains cob-1 ,1000-grain weight, forty cob fresh weight and dry weight, grain yield and straw yield of zero-till maize. However, all parameters were higher in the plots where two preemergence herbicides (Pendimathalin and Atrazine) were applied in combination with five post emergence herbicides. Among the pre-emergence herbicides, the highest grain yield (15633.43 kg ha-1 ) was found in Pendimathalin applied plot. In case of postemergence herbicides, Atrazine gave the maximum grain yield (16283.27 kg ha-1 ), which was statistically similar with grain yield (16027.48 kg ha-1 ) in Tembotrione + Atrazine applied plot. However, the sequential use of pre-emergence herbicides Pendimithalin with Atrazine as post-emergence herbicides gave statistically similar result. Therefore, sequential use of pre-emergence herbicides Pendimathalin and Atrazine applied immediately after maize seeding with post-emergence herbicides Atrazine, Tembotrione, applied at 15 DAS may be recommended for weed control as well as higher grain yield of zero-till maize.en_US
