Abstract
An experiment was conducted at the Agriculture Research Field and Laboratory,
Department of Agronomy, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology
University, Dinajpur, to study the yield and yield attributes of aromatic fine rice as
affected by variety and application of zinc fertilizer during the period from June to
December 2016. The experiment comprised three aromatic fine rice varieties
V1=Kalizira, V2=Tulsimala, V3=Kataribhog and three doses of zinc like Z0=Zinc control
(no application of zinc), Z1=10 Kg ha-1 and Z2=20 kg ha-1. The experiment was laid out
in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Most of the parameters
showed significant difference among the treatment. The cultivar Kataribhog (V3) with Z2
produced tallest plant (148.10 cm) followed by Tulsimala (V2) with Z2 (147.57 cm).
Tulsimala (V2) with Z2 produced highest number of effective tillers hill-1 (17.90) which
was statistically similar in Kalizira (V1) with Z2 (17.20). Rice cultivar V1 with Z2
produced the lowest number of non-effective tillers hill-1 (0.30) Kalizira (V1) with (Z1)
produced tallest panicle (22.08 cm). The highest number of fertile grain panicle-1
(130.10) was recorded in rice cultivar Kataribhog (V3) with Z1. Statistically similar result
was recorded in Tulsimala (V2) with Z1 (127.00). The lowest number of non-fertile grain
panicle-1 (5.0) was produced in the variety (V3) with Z2. The highest 1000-grain weight
was observed in the aromatic rice cultivar (V3) with Z1 (16.86 g). Highest grain yield
(2.30 t ha-1) was found in the (V3) with Z1. The highest straw yield (3.370 t ha-1) was
found in the (V3) with Z2. The highest biological yield (5.503 t ha-1) was found in the
(V3) with Z2 and which is statistically similar to V3 with Z1. The highest harvest index
(42.12%) was observed in the aromatic rice cultivar (V3) with Z1. The treatment
combination V3Z1 performed better in 1000-grain weight, grain yield, biological yield
and harvest index and overall increasing the yield of aromatic rice.
