A THESIS BY SHEIKH MD. IMRAN HOSSAIN Student no. 1605331 Session: 2016-2017 Semester: July-December, 2017 Submitted to the Department of Agronomy Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur In partial fulfillment of the requirements of degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRONOMYen_US
The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Research Field, Department of Agronomy, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, Bangladesh during December 2016 to May, 2017 to find out the best combination of soil and foliar application of urea for higher productivity of boro rice by reducing the requirement of nitrogen. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments of the experiment consisted as T0=N0 ( No nitrogen applied ), T1=N50+15% (50% urea of the RD was applied in soil and 15% urea of the RD was applied as foliar spray), T2=N50+20% (50% urea of the RD was applied in soil and 20% urea of the RD was applied as foliar spray), T3=N60+10% (60% urea of the RD was applied in soil and 10% urea of the RD was applied as foliar spray), T4=N60+15% (60% urea of the RD was applied in soil and 15% urea of the RD was applied as foliar spray), T5=N60+20% (60% urea of the RD was applied in soil and 20% urea of the RD was applied as foliar spray), T6=N70+10% (70% urea of the RD was applied in soil and 10% Urea of the RD was applied as foliar spray), T7=N100% (100% of the RD of N applied as urea in soil). For the field, the recommended doses of urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum and zinc sulphate were applied @ 230,70, 110, 80 and 7 kg ha1 , respectively. The whole amounts of triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum and zinc sulphate were applied in soil as basal dose at final land preparation except urea. Data were recorded on different growth and yield contributing parameters. Most of the parameters showed significant difference among the treatment. Results indicated that the highest value of some parameters viz. plant height (91.4 cm), non-effective tillers plant-1 (1.667), total tillers plant-1 (14.20), straw yield (5.573 t ha-1 ) were recorded from T7 treatment and the maximum effective tillers plant-1 (12.6), length of panicle (23.83 cm), grains panicle-1 (128.2), fertile grains panicle-1 (113.1), sterile grains panicle-1 (14.5) , 1000-grain weight (24.57g), grain yield (5.497 t ha-1 ) was obtained from T6. The highest harvest index (53.94%) and the lowest value of some parameters viz. plant height (76.8 cm), effective tillers plant-1 (8.933), non-effective tillers plant-1 (0.3333), total tillers plant-1 (9.267), panicle length (19.24 cm), grains panicle-1 (60.03), fertile grains panicle-1 (54.63), sterile grains panicle-1 (5.403), 1000-grain weight (22.87 g), grain yield (2.713 t ha-1), straw yield (2.317 t ha-1) was recorded in T0. The treatment combination (T6) performed better for increasing the grain growth and yield of rice (BRRI dhan28).en_US
