Abstract
The objectives of this study were to measure the severity of anaemia problem. The study
mainly covers „Surjer Hashi Clinic‟ and „Marie Stopes Clinic‟ of Dinajpur Sadar
Upazila. In a cross-sectional survey of 120 rural non-pregnant, pregnant women and
adolescent, severe anaemia (Hb<7.0 g/dL) was uncommon. A questionnaire comprised
of both socio demographic and weekly diet diversity was conducted in health care
centers randomly assigned to collect data from those women and adolescent. Both
qualitative and quantitative data were collected by interviewing and from their record
file. Compliance was continued over two months of survey. 37.0% were suffering from
moderate anaemia (Hb=7.0-9.9g/dl) and 83% were suffering from mild anaemia (Hb=10-
12g/dl). When evaluating the effect of iron rich food consumption on haemoglobin
concentration difference was found as daily or weekly consumption schedule. From the
study, 81.7% participants were suffering from prolonged menstrual bleeding and the left
18.3% didn‟t. As menorrhagia can be a cause of iron deficiency anaemia, differences
were found with haemoglobin level. After that the moderate anaemic was higher in low
monthly household food expenditure group. It was seen that the participants who
expends the highest for food, occurrence of moderate anaemia was lowest there.
