    SEED FERTILIZATION AND FOLIAR APPLICATION OF NITROGEN WITH NUTRIENTS SOLUTION TO SAVE UREA IN WHEAT CULTIVATION

    Abstract
    An experiment was conducted at Agronomy Research Field of the Department of Agronomy, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during 2016-2017 in Rabi season with a view to examining the effect of seed fertilization and foliar application of urea with nutrients solution on the germination, seedling growth, yield components and yield of wheat to save urea fertilizer. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments comprised as T1 (Control), T2 (NS 5ml/kg seed with 40ml H2O + NSA50% + NFA10% + NS 4ml), T3 (NS 5ml/kg seed with 5ml H2O + NSA50% + NFA10% + NS 4ml), T4 (NS 10ml/kg seed with 40ml H2O + NSA50% + NFA15% + NS 4ml), T5 (NS 10ml/kg seed with 5ml H2O + NSA50% + NFA15% + NS 4ml), T6 (NS 15ml/kg seed with 40ml H2O + NSA60% + NFA10% + NS 4ml), T7 (NS 15ml/kg seed with 5ml H2O + NSA60% + NFA10% + NS 4ml), T8 (NS 20ml/kg seed with 40ml H2O + NSA60% + NFA15% + NS 4ml), T9 (NS 20ml/kg seed with 5ml H2O + NSA60% + NFA15% + NS 4ml), T10 (N100%). Data were recorded on different growth and yield contributing parameters. Germination percentage, crop growth rate, SPAD value, plant height, spike length, number of effective tillers hill-1 and number of filled grains spike-1, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield and harvest index of wheat. The results revealed that the highest germination percentage (72.2%), SPAD value (48.77), plant height (94.17cm), number of effective tillers hill-1 (9.00), number of filled grain spike-1 (56.67), 1000- grain weight (58.13 g), grain yield (5.62 t ha-1), straw yield (4.74 t ha-1) as well as biological yield (10.35 t ha-1) was recorded from T9,T8 and T3. The treatment T9, T8 and T3 were found to be better treatments in terms of obtaining higher germination, seedling growth as well as grain yield. The effect of T9 treatment was specially remarkable for achieving higher yield of wheat and in the economic point of view. It also indicated that seed fertilization and foliar application of urea coupled with nutrients solution were better performance for obtaining maximum yield and yield components of wheat (BARI Gom 30) by saving 25 - 40% urea fertilizer than traditional method. Considering the findings at least, 25% urea was saved from the T9 treatment combination.
