    Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Research Field, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during the period from December, 2016 to April, 2017 to appraise the effect of zinc and GA3 on yield and yield contributing characters of BRRI dhan29. The BRRI dhan29 was collected from BADC. The conducted experiment comprised of two factors; Factor-A: Zinc sulphate where Z1=control, Z2=7 kg, Z3=14 kg and Factor B: Gibberellic acid (GA3), where G1= control, G2= 75 ppm, GA3= 150 ppm. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications of each treatment. The seeds of BRRI dhan29 were sown in the seed bed on December 19, 2016. Growth, yield and yield contributing characteristics of BRRI dhan29 were significantly influenced by different doses of zinc fertilizer and GA3. Individual application of different levels of zinc fertilizer and gibberellic acid showed significant effect on growth, yield and yield attributes studied. The highest plant height, number of total tillers hill-1 was observed in Z3, and the effective tillers, panicle length, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield and harvest index were significantly increased in Z2. Among the different concentrations of GA3 the highest plant height, number of total tillers hill-1 was observed in G3 and the effective tillers, panicle length, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield and harvest index were significantly increased in G2 treatment. On the other hand, among the different combinations of zinc and GA3, the highest plant height was observed in Z1G1, panicle length, numbers of grain panicle-1 , 1000-grain weight, grain yield, biological yield and harvest index were obtained in Z2G2. The highest grain yield 6.27 (t ha-1) was found at the concentration of Z2, whereas the lowest grain yield 5.22 (t ha-1) was gained at control condition. The highest grain yield 6.76 (t ha-1) was found at the concentration of GA3 at 75 ppm, whereas the lowest grain yield 4.87 t ha-1 was gained at control condition. The maximum grain yield 6.62 (t ha-1) was acquired at the treatment combination of Z2G2 and the minimum 4.60 t ha-1 was recorded under the treatment combination of Z1G1. The present study revealed that zinc and GA3 would be applied at the rate of 7 kg ha-1 and 75 ppm, respectively for enhancing the yield attributes as well as yield of BRRI dhan29.
