A THESIS BY MD. ABDUL ALIM Student ID: 1605320 Session: 2016-2017 Semester: January-June, 2018 Submitted to Department of Agronomy Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur In partial fulfillment of the requirements of degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRONOMYen_US
The experiment was conducted at the research field, Department of Agronomy, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur during January to May, 2017 to find out the effect of foliar application of urea on the yield traits and yield of boro rice cv. BRRI dhan28. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The one factorial experiment was consisted of 10 treatments viz. T1= N0 (Control i.e. no urea used), T2= N50+10% (50% urea as 2 times top dressing and 10% urea as 2 times foliar spray were applied), T3= N50+15% (50% urea as 2 times top dressing and 15% urea as 3 times foliar spray were applied), T4= N50+20% (60% urea as 2 times top dressing and 20% urea as 3 times foliar spray were applied), T5= N60+10% (60% urea as 2 times top dressing and 10% urea as 2 times foliar spray were applied), T6= N60+15% (60% urea as 2 times top dressing and 15% urea as 3 times foliar spray were applied), T7= N60+20% (70% urea as 2 times top dressing and 20% urea as 2 times foliar spray were applied), T8= N70+10% (70% urea as 2 times top dressing and 10% as 3 times foliar spray were applied), T9 all urea were applied as traditional method (33.33% during land preparation, 33.33% after 25 DAT and rest 33.33% urea at 40 DAT). T10 all urea were applied as traditional method (as T9 and 10% as 2 times foliar applications as treatment T2).The recommended dose of urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum, ZnSO4 and borax @ 250, 75, 100, 75, 10 and 5 kg ha-1 ,respectively. All fertilizers except urea were applied during land preparation. The results revealed that most of the parameters showed significant difference among the treatment. The plant height (100.6cm) was recorded in the T9 treatment, while the highest total grains panicle-1 (140), straw yield (8.317 t ha-1 ), number non-effective tillers plant-1 (7.865), number sterile grains panicle-1 (24.33) were observed in T10 treatment. However, the highest number effective tillers plant-1 (18.67), number of total tillers plant-1 (14.20), and length of panicle (21.43 cm), number of fertile grains panicle-1 (117.4), 1000 grain weight (24.56g), grain yield (6.314 t ha-1 ) and harvest index (52.51%) were opined in T8. In contrary, the lowest plant height (75.85 cm), number of effective tillers hill-1 (12.67), number of non-effective tillers hill-1 (1.33), panicle length (16.48 cm), number of fertile grains panicle-1 (85.34), number of sterile grains panicle-1 (7), 1000 grain weight (19.74g), grain yield (2.194 t ha-1 ), straw yield (4.08 t ha-1 ) were recorded under control condition (T1). The treatment T8 performed better to all the treatments including T9. Comparatively, better yield traits were obtained with the treatment T8 (70% soil +10% foliar urea application) among all the treatments and the values were statistically similar to the treatment T9 (100% urea soil application). To get the more confirmation and recommendation the experiments can be repeated in different agro ecological zone of Bangladesh.en_US
