ANIK, S. M. TARIF-UZ-ZAMAN
This study was designed to investigate the diseases of commercial chicken at Mithapukur upazila in &#13;
Rangpur district of Bangladesh. The research was conducted for a period of six months from &#13;
November 2022 to April 2023. A total of 870 clinically ill and dead chicken were taken from the &#13;
study, of which 308 were broiler, 270 were sonali and 292 were layer chickens and the diagnosis &#13;
was confirmed by postmortem examination of dead chicken. The overall prevalence of viral disease &#13;
in broiler, sonali and layer chicken were 37.7%, 30.0% and 26.0% and bacterial disease were 20.1%, &#13;
15.6% and 42.8% and fungal, protozoan and other diseases were 42.2%, 54.4% and 31.2% &#13;
respectively. Inclusion body hepatitis 57 (18.5%) in broiler, coccidiosis 88 (32.6%) in sonali chicken &#13;
and colibacillosis 40 (13.7%) in layer chicken were predominant disease. Broiler chicken of 14-27 &#13;
days old age group were more affected (63.2%) with inclusion body hepatitis; sonali chicken of 14&#13;
40 days’ age were more (60.2%) affected with coccidiosis and layer chicken of more than 101 days &#13;
age group showed highest prevalence (62.5%) of colibacillosis than other age group. Predominant &#13;
diseases were more in flock size between 1001-1500, earthen floor type rearing system and in the &#13;
farms reared by primary educated people. Treatment efficacy against inclusion body hepatitis in &#13;
broiler, coccidiosis in sonali and colibacillosis in layer was best  achieved by treating broiler with a &#13;
combination of a) Glucose + Sodium-bicarbonate b) Liver tonic (Heparen/Neomeriol) c) Kidney &#13;
tonic (Nephrocare/Lumix vet) d) Vitamin-C (Rena C/Vita C) (Ascorbic Acid-98%) e) &#13;
Immunomodulator (Xillian/AIB Vet) and the sonali chicken with a) Diclazuril (dmeria) (2.0%) b) &#13;
Vitamin-k  (Rena K) c) Vitamin-C (Vita C) (Ascorbic Acid-98%) d) Kidney Tonic (Lumix vet) and &#13;
layer chicken with a) Florfenicol b) Neomycin Sulphate (Neo vet 70) c) Kidney Tonic (Nephrocare) &#13;
d) Toxin Binder (AquaTox) e) Vitamin E-Selenium (Sel E). It is concluded that different viral, &#13;
bacterial and protozoan disease are circulating in broiler, sonali and layer chicken and still they are &#13;
well managed by different commercial drugs in commercial chickens at farm levels.

Recently repeat breeding syndrome becomes a significant challenge for dairy producer &#13;
due to large economic loss in Bangladesh. The present study was conducted from &#13;
January to June 2023 to observe the prevalence of repeat breeding syndrome, to isolate &#13;
and identify the bacteria with their molecular confirmation and antibiotic sensitivity &#13;
causing repeat breeding syndrome in cows in the northern region of Bangladesh. By &#13;
using a questionnaire and history-taking techniques (more than 10 years old, one calf in &#13;
life, three subsequent Artificial Insemination (AI) failures to conceive, having no &#13;
perceptible anomalies of reproductive tract) to interview dairy owners, repeat breeding &#13;
syndrome was identified. Bacteria were isolated and identified from the cervical mucus &#13;
of affected cows. For confirmation of the detected bacteria, PCR was used. The agar disc &#13;
diffusion method was utilized to investigate the antibiotic sensitivity of the detected &#13;
isolates against widely used antibiotics in vitro. The prevalence of repeat breeding &#13;
syndrome was 41.33%. The prevalence of E. coli was 40%, Styphylococcus aureus 40% &#13;
and Klebsiella spp. 10%. Molecular detection of E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus was &#13;
confirmed by using Eco 223 (F), Eco 455 (R), Sau 234(F) and Sau 1501(R) primers. The &#13;
target genes were 16S and 23S rRNA and the size of the product amplified at 232 bp and &#13;
1267 bp respectively. According to the antibiogram profile, E. coli was resistant to &#13;
ciprofloxacin, penicillin, tetracycline, amoxicillin, and erythromycin, but sensitive to &#13;
ceftriaxone and gentamicin. While Staphylococcus aureus was resistant to ampicillin and &#13;
erythromycin, it was sensitive to ciprofloxacin, ceftriaxone, and levofloxacin. It was also &#13;
intermediately resistant to vancomycin and amoxicillin. Klebsiella spp. showed &#13;
resistance to ceftriaxone, penicillin, and amoxicillin, while remaining sensitive to &#13;
ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and intermediate resistance to erythromycin and gentamicin. &#13;
It should be concluded that E. coli, Styphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella spp. are the &#13;
most common bacteria causing repeat breeding syndrome in cows. Treatment for repeat &#13;
breeding syndrome should be done after performing antibiotic sensitivity test.

<title>PREGNANCY DIAGNOSIS IN GOAT BY USING VAGINAL CYTOLOGY AND TRANS-ABDOMINAL ULTRASONOGRAPHY</title>
<link>http://103.7.193.12:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/1486</link>
<description>PREGNANCY DIAGNOSIS IN GOAT BY USING VAGINAL CYTOLOGY AND TRANS-ABDOMINAL ULTRASONOGRAPHY
The present study was conducted in a goat farm for pregnancy detection by using vaginal&#13;
cytology and B-mode real time ultrasound using 5 MHz probe by transabdominal&#13;
method. Seventeen pregnant does were used for this study. The objective of the study&#13;
was to determine the earliest days of pregnancy and describe the chronological&#13;
characteristics of pregnancy from days 22 to days 40 for vaginal cytology and days 25 to&#13;
days 60 for ultrasonography of gestation. The present study revealed that the pregnancy&#13;
was detected at 22-25 days after mating by detection of higher average percentages of&#13;
intermediate cells and few percentage of superficial, keratinized and neutrophil cells.&#13;
Parabasal cells were absent. The average percentage of intermediate, superficial,&#13;
keratinized and neutrophil cells during early stage of pregnancy were 81.12%, 9.41%,&#13;
7.10% and 2.61% respectively on 22-40th days. In case of real time B-mode&#13;
ultrasonography, pregnancy was detected at 25 days after mating by detection of&#13;
gestational sac. The gestational sac was observed only in three does out of seventeen&#13;
(17.6 %) at 25-30 days whereas the placentomes &amp; heart beat of the foetus were first&#13;
detected at 31-35 days in six does (35.3%). The foetal leg buds were first visualized at&#13;
36-40 days in four does (23.5%) whereas the foetal vertebral column was first observed&#13;
at 36-40 days of gestation in only three does (17.6%). It could be concluded that vaginal&#13;
cytology may be used for detection of pregnancy in doe. The real time transabdominal&#13;
ultrasonography pregnancy can be easily utilized for early pregnancy diagnosis in does at&#13;
field level. Further work involving large number of animal throughout the pregnant&#13;
period should be needed.

<title>SCROTAL CIRCUMFERENCE AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH TESTICULAR GROWTH, AGE AND BODY WEIGHT IN INDIGENOUS BULLS</title>
<link>http://103.7.193.12:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/1477</link>
<description>SCROTAL CIRCUMFERENCE AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH TESTICULAR GROWTH, AGE AND BODY WEIGHT IN INDIGENOUS BULLS
ALI, MD. ROMJAN
The relationship among the scrotal circumference and testicular parameters with body weight&#13;
and age were investigated in indigenous bulls. Data from thirty six indigenous bulls were&#13;
recorded and classified into four age groups namely, Group I (15-18 months, n=7 animals),&#13;
Group II (19-22 months, n=8 animals), Group III (23-26 months n=12 animals) and Group IV&#13;
(27 months and above, n=9 animals). Age of the bulls were determined using their dental&#13;
formula. Live weight body weight of each bull was calculated according to Shaeffer’s&#13;
formula. Scrotal circumference were measured with a cloth tape and testicular parameters and&#13;
were measured with a caliper. Body weight, scrotal circumference and testicular parameters&#13;
were varied in different age groups even in left and right testes of the same animal. The&#13;
results of different testicular parameters, scrotal circumference, and body weight at different&#13;
age of Indigenous bulls were significantly (&lt;0.05) different among the age groups. These&#13;
parameters were increased by the advancement of age. The body weight was lowest in case of&#13;
age group I (98.14±11.87 kg) and was highest in age group IV (214.22±33.27 kg). The&#13;
scrotal circumference was lowest in case of age group I (17.14±.63 cm) and was highest in&#13;
age group IV (24.33±1.31 cm). The average estimated testicular weight was lowest in age&#13;
group I (86.38±12.18 gm) and was highest in age group IV (214.03±22.93 gm). Various&#13;
measurements of the testes were highly correlated with each other (&lt; 0.01). Body weight&#13;
was more highly correlated with the various testicular measurements than age. Moreover age,&#13;
testis weight, and body weight of Indigenous bulls were highly correlated with scrotal&#13;
circumference. Scrotal circumference was highly correlated with other testicular&#13;
measurements as well as testicular volume. Correlation coefficient R2 between scrotal&#13;
circumference and age in indigenous bulls was 0.599 and between scrotal circumference and&#13;
body weight was 0.785 which indicates a strong positive relationship among the parameters.&#13;
Finally from the present study it could be concluded that scrotal circumference is a useful&#13;
indicator and is an important selection criterion to determine the testicular development and&#13;
breeding soundness in young bulls.
