<description>DEVELOPMENT OF PACKAGE TECHNOLOGY FOR GINGER PRODUCTION IN BANGLADESH
ISLAM, MD: ASHIKUL
The present research work was conducted at the Spices Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Shibgonj, Bogra during the period 2008-09 to 2010-2011 to develop technology package for higher ginger production. Series of experiments were conducted in relation to rhizome size, plant spacing, planting time, mulching, irrigation, planting method, nitrogen and potassium fertilizer application and rhizome rot control for ginger production. &#13;
&#13;
Results revealed that 50g rhizome gave highest yield but the economic size was 40g for ginger production. The maximum yield was obtained from the high plant density. It gave the highest rhizome yield by increasing plant population per unit area, and lower density (50 × 25cm) reduced rhizome yield per unit area due to less plant population. But from the economic point of view, 40 × 25cm spacing was the significantly best for ginger production. In case of planting time 1st April planting the was best for ginger production. Rice straw mulch with two irrigations was the best for ginger production. Ridge method was found suitable for ginger cultivation than the flat planting method. In case of fertilizer, nitrogen applied at 120 and potassium at 120kg ha─1 were observed to be the optimum for obtaining higher ginger yield. Neem cake at a rate of 2 t ha─1 was better to control rhizome rot and ginger production. Based on the results of the experiments, a technology of package for ginger production has been suggested. The suggested technology package includes: 40g seed rhizome, 40 × 25cm spacing, 1st April planting, rice straw mulch, two irrigation, ridge planting method, nitrogen application at 120kg and potassium 120kg ha─1 and neem cake at 2 t ha─1 for growing ginger under Bogra, Banglabesh condition.

<description>GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY PERFORMANCE OF SOME SWAMP CABBAGE CULTIVARS UNDER NFT SYSTEM 0.
FARDOUS, AFRIN
The experiment was carried out to evaluate the growth, yield, and quality of some &#13;
swamp cabbage (Ipomoea aquatica) cultivars grown under Nutrient Film Technique &#13;
(NFT) hydroponic system in the net house of Department of Horticulture, Hajee &#13;
Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, during the period &#13;
from May to July, 2023. The single-factor experiment was laid out with three swamp &#13;
cabbage cultivars: BARI swamp cabbage-1 (V1), La procesa swamp cabbage-1 (V2), and &#13;
Nice green swamp cabbage (V3) in Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three &#13;
replications. The average daytime temperature and relative humidity during the research &#13;
period were 33.86°C and 91.5%, respectively. Results indicated that the variety, BARI &#13;
swamp cabbage-1 (V1) performed superior than the other cultivars. The tallest plant &#13;
height (30.33 cm), largest leaf area (664.80 mm²), highest fresh weight per plant (235.03 &#13;
g), highest yield (34.83 ton/ha), and dry matter percentage (12.33%) were noted in BARI &#13;
swamp cabbage-1 (V1). The performance of Nice green swamp cabbage (V3) and La &#13;
procesa swamp cabbage-1 (V2) found in the same hydroponic system. Nice green (V3) &#13;
showed good adaptation increase and the highest number of leaves (31 leaves per plant). &#13;
It also excelled in SPAD readings and vitamin C content. However, V2 (LP-1) showed &#13;
only moderate results compared to the other two cultivars. BARI swamp cabbage-1 (V1) &#13;
found superior in terms of chlorophyll-a and β-carotene concentration, making it the top&#13;
performing cultivar in terms of both yield and quality. The findings demonstrate that &#13;
NFT hydroponic systems are effective for sustainable swamp cabbage production, &#13;
particularly in regions with limited water and land resources. Among the tested cultivars, &#13;
BARI swamp cabbage-1 (V1) is the most promising option for achieving high yields and &#13;
quality under NFT system.

<title>EFFECT OF DIFFERENT SOURCES OF NUTRIENTS AND GA3 ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF SWEET GOURD</title>
<link>http://103.7.193.12:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/2038</link>
<description>EFFECT OF DIFFERENT SOURCES OF NUTRIENTS AND GA3 ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF SWEET GOURD
ROSIQUZZAMAN, MD.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different nutrient sources and GA3 concentrations &#13;
on growth, yield and fruit quality of sweet gourd. The experiment was laid out in a &#13;
Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The experiment &#13;
considered of three sources of nutrients viz. F1 = only recommended doses of fertilizer, F2 = &#13;
F1+5 ton vermicompost/ha, F3 = F1+2 ton vermicompost/ha + 1 ton MOC/ha and three &#13;
concentration of GA3 (0ppm, 200ppm and 400ppm). The experiment was conducted to assess &#13;
plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, male and female flowers, fruit/pit, fruit &#13;
weight, fruit diameter, fruit length, yield/pit as well as yield per hectare. From the experiment &#13;
it was revealed that maximum plant height at 30, 45, 60 and 90 DAS (50.80, 102.33, 227.67 &#13;
and 421.33 cm), number of leaf at 30, 45, 60 and 90 DAS (17.16, 26.53, 51.43 and 68.00), &#13;
number of branch/plant at 30,45,60 and 90 DAS (1.37, 3.56, 4.78 and 9.60), male and female &#13;
flowers/plant (57.70 and 9.01), fruits/pit (7.32 kg), fruit weight (4.91 kg), fruit diameter &#13;
(29.53 cm), fruit length (13.96 cm), yield/pit (39.97kg), yield/ha (39.90 t) was recorded from &#13;
F2G1 (Only recommended doses of fertilizer + 5 ton vermicompost/ha +200 ppm GA3 and &#13;
minimum in F3G2 (F1+2 ton vermicompost + MOC (Mustard oil cake)1 ton/ha+ 400 ppm &#13;
GA3). Results indicated that the treatment combining chemical fertilizer + 500 g of &#13;
vermicompost per pit and 200 ppm GA3 (F2G1) significantly performed all other treatments &#13;
across most parameters, showing the highest growth, fruit size and yield. On the other hand, &#13;
higher GA3 concentrations (400 ppm) and treatments with F3 and MOC (F3G2) led to reduced &#13;
growth and fruit development. The study concludes with recommendations for using a &#13;
combination of chemical fertilizers + vermicompost (5 ton/ha) and 200 ppm GA3 to &#13;
maximize sweet gourd production. The findings suggest that a balanced nutrient management &#13;
strategy incorporating both organic and inorganic fertilizers, along with moderate GA3 &#13;
application, is the most effective approach for enhancing sweet gourd productivity.

<title>EFFECTS OF IRRIGATION AND FERTILIZER ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF BEETROOT (Beta vulgaris)</title>
<link>http://103.7.193.12:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/2037</link>
<description>EFFECTS OF IRRIGATION AND FERTILIZER ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF BEETROOT (Beta vulgaris)
AKTAR, MST. SHIMA
A field experiment was conducted at the research field of horticulture farm of HSTU, &#13;
Dinajpur Sadar, from November 2023 to March 2024, to evaluate the effects of irrigation &#13;
and fertilizer on the growth and yield of beetroot (Beta vulgaris). The experiment was &#13;
designed as a two-factor Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three &#13;
replications. Treatments included three irrigation levels (two, four, and six irrigations) &#13;
and four types of fertilizers: F1 (only recommended doses of chemical fertilizer, F2 &#13;
(F1+10 ton/ha cowdung), F3 (F1+10 ton/ha vermicompost), and F4 (F1+ 5 ton/ha cowdung &#13;
and 5 ton/ha vermicompost). Results revealed that both irrigation and fertilizer &#13;
significantly influenced growth parameters.  Maximum  plant height (28.90 cm),  number &#13;
of leaves (8.33), leaf area (149.5 cm2), root length (7.12 cm), root diameter (4.98 cm), &#13;
single root weight (165.25 g), marketable root weight (141 g), yield per plot (1175 g) &#13;
was found in treatment I3. Among the irrigation levels, six irrigations yielded the best &#13;
results, producing the highest growth and yield. Fertilizer treatments F4 (F1 + 5 ton &#13;
cowdung + 5 ton vermicompost) also showed notable differences leading to the highest &#13;
root yield. Maximum plant height (27.62 cm), number of leaf (8), maximum leaf area &#13;
(139.78 cm2), root length (6.64 cm), root diameter (4.89 cm), single root weight (143.44 &#13;
g), marketable root weight (129.89 g), yield per plot (1086 g), yield per ha (10.867 ton) &#13;
were found  in the F4 treatment. The interaction between irrigation and fertilizer further &#13;
highlighted significant variations, with the maximum plant height (34.33 cm) number of &#13;
leaf (10.33), leaf area (149 cm2), root length (8.93 cm), root diameter (6.63 cm), single &#13;
root weight (240 g), marketable root weight (200 g), yield per plot (1750 g), highest &#13;
yield per ha (17.5 t/ha) achieved in the treatment I3F4 (six irrigations with recommended &#13;
doses of chemical fertilizer, 5 ton/ha  cowdung, and 5 ton/ha vermicompost. Overall, the &#13;
study concluded that adopting six irrigations along with recommended doses of chemical &#13;
fertilizer, 5 ton/ha cowdung, and 5 ton/ha vermicompost is optimal for maximizing &#13;
beetroot growth and yield under the experimental conditions.
