A study was conducted to analyze and describe the availability, price and marketing system of&#13;
dry fishes in Rangpur region. This study was based on a sample survey of 80 dry fish retailers of&#13;
Rangpur, Dinajpur, Panchagarh and Thakurgaon and 50 wholesalers of Chittagang, Rangpur and&#13;
Saidpur. The fieldwork covered the period from January, 2013 to June, 2013. Mainly middle&#13;
aged peoples were involved in this business. The main source of dry fishes for wholesale markets&#13;
was Chittagang and Khulna and source for the retailers were Saidpur and Rangpur markets.&#13;
Twenty two types of dry fishes were indentified in Rangpur region of which 15 were fresh water&#13;
and 7 marine water fish species. It was estimated that the price of dry fishes varies from 215 Tk/&#13;
kg to 914 Tk/kg depends on species and quality of the fish. The average income of the dry fish&#13;
trader ranged between 225 Tk to 437.5 Tk per day. Railway, bus, train, and rickshaw were used&#13;
for transporting dry fishes. Many problems of the dry fish marketing in Rangpur region was&#13;
identified such as higher transportation cost, lack of capital, lack of storage facilities, higher loan&#13;
interest etc and possible measures are suggested for gradual removal of these problems with the&#13;
help of related administration of the government.

Cyprinidae is the largest fish family with more than 2000 species grouped in approximately&#13;
340 genera. The family belongs to the order Cypriniformes, of whose genera and species the&#13;
cyprinids make up two-thirds. The phylogenetic relationships of the selected taxa among the&#13;
cyprinidae family were inferred from the morphological traits (30 taxa) and mitochondrial&#13;
gene (26 taxa) cytochrome b sequences. The average nucleotide composition were T (U)&#13;
28.2%, C 28.1%, A 29.1% and G 14.6% and Transition/Transversion bias (R) is 2.22. Faster&#13;
rate of transition and transversion showed in the third codon position. Highest genetic&#13;
distance was observed 0.348 in between B. bendelisis with E. danricus and in Crossocheilus&#13;
and Labeo (0.350) genera. The genetic distances was 0.087 in between L. calbasu and L.&#13;
gonius species and Catla and Labeo (0.10) genera. B. bendelisis showed the highest&#13;
divergence time 7.62 and lowest 2.91 in C. catla and L. rohita. The result from maximum&#13;
likelyhood (ML) method using morphological traits in MESQUITE and mitochondrial gene&#13;
cytochrome b in MEGA 6 strongly supported monophyletic lineage of leuciscinae subfamily.&#13;
L. rohita, C. reba, L. bata, L. calbasu, C. mrigala, C. catla, L. gonius, L. dyocheilus, C.&#13;
carpio were closely related in both tree. C. latius and G. gotyla from garrinae subfamily were&#13;
very close in both tree but not monophyletic. S. gora formed polyphyletic clade with R. bola&#13;
and B. barila in both tree. D. maculatus (schizothoracinae) formed sister group with B.&#13;
bendelisis in amino acid tree and with B. gonionotus in nucleotide tree. In both trees,&#13;
rasborinae appeared as polyphyletic group. Combined with analysis of both morphological&#13;
and molecular data this hypothesis suggested that more study are required in each subfamily&#13;
that were previously proposed to resolved the phylogenetic relationships among the cyprinid.

To know the effect of stocking density on the growth parameters of gulsha fish, an&#13;
experiment was carried out in six different ponds located at Kachubari, Thakurgaon for a&#13;
period of five months from 1 March to 30 July, 2015. Three stocking densities of gulsha&#13;
fish such as 400 individuals decimal-1&#13;
, 500 individuals decimal-1&#13;
and 600 individuals&#13;
decimal-1 were stocked as treatment 1 (T1), treatment 2 (T2) and treatment 3 (T3),&#13;
respectively using Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with two replication of each&#13;
treatment. Water quality parameters namely temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and&#13;
transparency were measured at fortnightly intervals. Results showed a significant&#13;
difference (p&lt;0.05) among different treatments. From this study it was found that&#13;
deterioration of water quality occurs due to increasing of stocking density. Water&#13;
temperature (○C) was higher and dissolved oxygen (ppm) was lower in T3. It was&#13;
observed that stocking density significantly affected the growth of gulsha fish. The&#13;
higher growth rate of gulsha fish was found in low stocking density. The highest length&#13;
(16.5 cm) and weight (33.5 g) were obtained in T1, whereas the lowest length (14.10 cm)&#13;
and weight (21.11 g) were obtained from T3. In addition, the highest specific growth rate&#13;
with maximum survival rate of gulsha fish was observed in T1. From this study, it may&#13;
be concluded that lower stocking density of gulsha fish produce better production and&#13;
maintaining suitable water quality in pond culture condition.

The research was undertaken to explore the involvement of rural women in different&#13;
aquaculture activities and to determine the extent of constraints faced by the women in&#13;
practicing homestead aquaculture. The survey was conducted in five upazila under Thakurgaon&#13;
district. For questionnaire interviews, simple random sampling method was use for selection of&#13;
sample from the population. A total number of 100 women, 20 form each upazila were selected&#13;
and were interviewed during November 2015 to April 2016. The study was tried to explore the&#13;
relationships of selected characteristics (independent variables) with constraints for practicing&#13;
homestead aquaculture (dependent variable). The independent variables were age, educational&#13;
qualification, family size, knowledge of aquaculture, extension contact, cosmopoliteness, pond&#13;
size, and marketing orientation. Among the total 13 constraints “unavailability of training on&#13;
fish culture” occupied the highest (CFI=225) score and is the first in the ranking while “lack of&#13;
help from family members” had the lowest (CFI=145) score. Slightly around half (49 percent) of&#13;
the respondents had medium constraints, 17 percent had low constraints and 34 percent of the&#13;
respondents had high constraints for practicing homestead aquaculture. Among the eight&#13;
characteristics of the farmer’s educational qualification, aquaculture knowledge, extension&#13;
contact and marketing orientation showed significantly negative relationship with the&#13;
constraints. On the other hand age, family size, cosmopoliteness, pond size of the respondents&#13;
did not show any significant relationship with their constraints.
